Third party ticket in November?
Sep 30th, 2008 at 9:15am

I am an independant. I have not always voted that way. In recent years I have joined most of the world in the "lesser of two evils" wars. I am proud to say I voted against Bush - both times. Unfortuantly that meant voting for Kerry the second time but that is the nature of a two paty system and the lesser of two evils mindset. I digress.

If you are on the fence about the election, (as many here have stated they are) or are looking for a change of pace, or just want some more information about the choices available, one could do a lot worse than looking at getting a third party on board.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and this information link doesn't infer anything by me other than a place for more elcetion information. If this does not interest you can just walk on by.

I found this to be hilarious, and of course like most things I find funny, to also be totaly true.

And I know I must have a good sense of humor because I laughed loudest at the last paragraph - a jab at third party voters!

funny stuff man...........

Unfortunately,

The next president of the United States will be whoever the Press wants to be President.

The bottom 20% of the population that they keep refering to is, in this day and age a HUGE number of votes, and which ever candidate can butter them up the most will be the winner.

But Jimmers, it's this kind of thinking that keeps us in this mess, ya know?

Believe me, I've been telling people every chance I get that there are MORE options out there than what you see on TV or read in the paper!!  I just wish others did the research themselves instead of letting the media do it for them.

Personal responsibility, the 2 words Charlie doesn't like hearing, LOL. Wink

I still say the PROBLEM remains with the PEOPLE of the US. We elect a president and a Congress and then let them do as they please. We don't watch them and TELL them what we WANT. We just sit back complacently and let them do what's "best for us" and that is just WRONG. They tend to FORGET they work for US and that they're there to do what their BOSS wants.

Voting is just the first step == backing up your vote is an ongoing process. Blink and you lose.

Exactly the point I was trying to make Mel!

Keep them poor, keep them struggling and they won't have time to REALLY look at the issues at hand, sprinkle a couple of feel good tidbits to them through TV commercials and the vote is as good as won.

So far, I have not heard either of the candidates come up with any plan, for ANY issue in a concrete form. Just the usual "My administration will do this, or do that." Just more of the blah blah blah lip service.

One option, available to all eligible voters: vote for somebody else.

It seems every election sees an increase in the amount of hot air that blows. It's a wonder we even use natural gas and heating oil.

A couple of things on third parties:  Here in NY, it's a blue state and it makes no real difference....now...but if enough people decide that it's safe to vote that way; things might get close. I'm asked to vote third party by evangelists mostly. It's not hard to understand. They are a patient bunch and the electoral clout of NY some day would be stunning if they can use significant third party voting to skew the outcome.

Another thing is that too often gay rights activists for instance, go overboard for the Ralph Naders of the world. This is fine but by suggesting voting this way, they wind up with a George Bush or other right winger that hates everything about them. Of course, I think it's insane for them to harp on gay issues before elections as it's a good way to bring out some evangelists that might not be interested in voting for other reasons.

I don't like the lesser of two evils either but I don't like the idea of my being a tough guy for alturistic reasons when its only result is to bring about some horror that has to depend on this kind of thing to have a chance. It happened in 2000 in a couple of places and we have paid dearly for it.

Voting for Ron Paul in those tight races has a lot of appeal but you have to be practical unless you can put up with a few decades of very unpleasant or even dangerous leaders.

Charlie

Ok Charlie, I came across a post on another forum and I'm going to try and explain this as best I can...

IF we can get those who are unsatisified on BOTH sides of the aisle to vote 3rd party, then instead of taking 1 vote away from one side, it'll be 2 instead.  If you go to the Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register website, you'll see there are independant candidates that lean both ways.  Like Ron Paul has said in the past, you may be voting for the lesser of 2 evils with the 2 main parties, but you're still voting for evil nonetheless.  THAT is why we need to get as many people as possible informed that there are more choices than what is being presented to us by the retarded media!

Here it is!!  I'm a moron, it wasn't in a forum but on C4L's front page.

Anyway, it's a suggestion from votepact.org

Quote:
The Problem:
Most voters don’t vote for—often don’t even consider voting for—third parties because they view voting for a third party as helping the establishment party they most dislike. Disenchanted Democrats continue to vote for Democrats because they don’t want Republicans; disenchanted Republicans continue to vote for Republicans because they don’t want Democrats.

VotePact.org—The Solution:
Disenchanted Republicans should pair up with disenchanted Democrats and both vote for third party or independent candidates they more genuinely want. This way they siphon off votes by twos from each of the establishment parties. This liberates the voters to vote their actual preference from among those on the ballot, rather than to just pick the “least bad” of the two majors. They could each vote for different candidates, or they could vote for the same candidate. If the later, it could offer an enterprising candidate a path to actual electoral success.

This would work better if the parties did what they used to. It used to be that you campaign earlier on your extreme and lead from the center. They don't do it much anymore.
