Liz is headed to Rawlins, Wyoming tomorrow morning for a few days.  Her company's been hired by the BLM to develop an interpretive plan for the historic JO Ranch near there, and this quick field survey is the first step in the process.

Scroll down to "Wyoming" and "JO Ranch Stabilization".

I should have some photos to show you and a bit more information in the next few days.  All in all, it promises to be an interesting project for them, and a nice change of pace from the highway department and cell-tower projects that occupy most of their time.

Wish her luck--the weather in the northern Rockies is a little iffy this time of year.   Tongue  In truth, I'm not particularly concerned about anything except winter storm delays--EJ's a trooper, and has worked in far more challenging situations before.

Best,

George

Very cool.  I bet she enjoys the trip and the change of pace.  Pics are definitely in order.

I did some consulting work on the Conoco pipeline terminals in Montana and Wyoming in October of 2001.  Beautiful country up there, though the snow was starting to accumulate by now.  The wife flew up and we visited Yellowstone and stayed at the Old Faithful Inn.  Yellowstone is a magical place with a "light dusting" of snow.  Jane and I still talk about moving to Montana or Wyoming one day.  Sheridan, Wyoming had a Mongolian Barbecue place that is still on my list of places to return to one day.

I couldn't resist taking this picture on my way to Lance Creek, Wyoming - population 78.

Welcome to Lost Springs, Wyoming - population 4.

Tell her be be careful about keeping her gas tank full and that what passes for a "major road" on the map is sometimes not much more than a gravel road.  I learned that the hard way when someone told me the "shortcut" on how to get back to Douglas from Lance Creek.  The road they showed me on the map was largely gravel for long stretches and there were times I was sure I had somehow gotten off the road and driven into someone's cow pasture.  I stayed on the "road" and made it with no problem, but dayum!
