I've had ch for six years and have tried a lot of meds. This recent episode with the beast has been since July 28 and I have had 1to 5 headaches a day. The best med for me has been imatrex inj. They work great but don't last very long. My doctor had me try Frova 2.5mg and it works very good. It takes 30 to 45 min.to work but I only get 1 a day usually at night. Has anybody tried this? Just thought I let you people know.

Frova works well for many as a sort of "preventative," but triptans are not something you want to be taking every day if you can keep from it. They aren't good for your body and they are damnably expensive. Some people take it to get a good night's sleep or take it about an hour before a long flight or drive to stay pain free while traveling. I get hit 3 - 5 times a day and while oxygen or imitrex injetions will abort very quickly for me, there are times I just can't be distracted. During those times, I usually use Frova to keep me pain free.

Another useful weapon in the arsenal. Thanks for sharing.

Yes- I've taken frova too. I was getting pretty beat up my last cycle and doc prescribed frova - an 8 day supply and verapamil. Gave me the frova to help me have some pain free times till verap kicked in.

Definitely as gator said , I wouldn't use as an abortive. My headache would be over by the time the frova would kick in. I took it at about mid morning to get me painfree til next morning . It simply bought me some time. I took no other trex at that time - just the frova . After the verap kicked in , I only needed the trex about 2 other times for very heavy shadowing-

Do NOT take 2 different triptain medications within 24 hours of each other. There are a few clusterheads here that can attest to this first hand.

Under my Doctors care I took Frova as a prevent on an experimental basis at 2 per day with an allowance of 3 on "extreme" days. Very hard on the heart. It was helpful but not a total success. I still had break troughs unless 2 doses overlapped. (risky) Luckily I have a strong heart which prompted the Doc & me to try it.

We're all different and like the others have said I find it is useful. A few weeks ago, early in my cycle when shadows were first waking me I took one I had left from a previous cycle and slept well. No Rx this cycle. I hope it helps you at least until you find someting better.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of the Beast , I have O2 so I fear him not.

My last cycle I tried Frova - it does takes a long time to kick in but lasts a long time for me.

Under supervision from my Doc, I took a Frova right before bed. If I woke up with a hit I'd take another one. When the doses overlapped it didn't seem to take as long to for the second dose to kick in. AND best, usually I could last the night PF!

I did this when the 02 lost its effectiveness - my last cycle was unusually long and after a couple months the 02 just didn't have the magic.

The combination seemed to work well for me.

WITH the consent of my Neuro AND my cardiac guy, I have mixed Triptans like Frova for long term and Zomig NS for immediate help. They BOTH said that this approach is "off label" and could potentially be dangerous for some people, but it certainly worked. Being chronic, that wasn’t anything more than a two week experiment for me.

After almost 12 years of being chronic, I am convinced that while Triptans give me miraculous relief, they actually increase the frequency of my hits. Imitrex in particular.

Which got me scolded on here It worked wll when nothing else would, but we all know not to mix trips without the supervision of a Dr.
