McCain is looking more like his old self from 2000, and that is good for him I beleive. Mudslinging and lies will not help this country now. We need to get past all the usual BS and get going forward again.

These people suck. Things will never get better if we do not act to a higher standard and then have the integrity to hold others to the same standard.

So maybe instead of a third moderate party we need two more parties - the extreme right and extreme left parties.

Or three more parties, both extremes and a moderate.

I've saw this on CSPAN, I think. This kind of stuff isn't new but booing your own candidate at such levels is new to me.

Peggy Noonan's book about the lack of grace....the word she uses...in political campaigns is aimed at this very thing. I hope to read the thing sometime. I think she was a Reagan speech writer.

I have promised myself I wouldn't post on any more political threads here but here I am.  Im in total agreement with you,  but I would like to see it go farther and just drop all political parties.  Then maybe people can look at the cadiates as people and not as dem. or rep. and the politicians we elect can use there own brains instead of being pressured to vote with the party lines.

You make a very good point. When a vote is cast, it really isn't cast for a single candidate, it is cast for a party.

It is the parties that find a candidate they think they can present in the most favorable way to win the election. The candidates usually just do what the party tells them too, or they get booted from party favor, adn the money gets cut off.

It was a joke.  I was referring to this quote by superhawk:

Please try not to misunderstand me here, this is a genuine question having been Canadian and still not understanding the electoral college worth a damn:

What happened to the policy of the loser became the VP?  Can anyone tell me when that ended and why that practice ended?  And how was that affected by the electoral college?

It changed after the election of 1800.  The twelfth amendment was passed to alter the practice of giving the vice-presidency to the candidate with the second-most votes.  For more on this, and on the electoral college, see:

The electoral college has been around since the beginning of the Presidency.  Washington is the only to be elected by 100% of the electoral college.

I believe the US has had a ticket (Pres/VP voted together) since almost the beginning if not the beginning.
