The current economy explained

Here is a link to a radio show put on by NPR and Chicago Public Radio that explains in a non partisan and very easy to understand way the reason for the current economic crisis. I found it to be absolutely fascinating and extremely informative.

I watched a show I think it was 20/20 maybe not a couple of weeks ago.  It explained that the problem was all wallstreets fault.  Not democrat or republican.  That they had sold mortgages along with insurance policies that acted as insurance policies but had no money pooled behind them so if people needed to collect on these policies they could.  When the market started to tank people started wanting to collect on their policies.  Of which there was no money set aside for people to collect on.  This caused the down slide and panick in the market.  That is just what I heard.

I work for a mutual funds company here as a trainer (a teacher in the workplace basically) so am dealing with this day-in-day-out. I was even sent to our call centre to take calls from customers last week when things got REALLY bad because it's just hectic.

I found this website and I used to help explain to some people on a course and they found it useful. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register You may too.

This BBC website is also pretty good too - I really like the explanation of terms which may help. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register - scroll to halfway down the page and look at 'The Basics'.
