But first, how about a few late season roses?

When this rose is budding out, the buds are almost black

I love the architecture in Natchez.  I won't be going back any time soon (switched my territory), so I went *hunting* to see what I could find.

Talking about *pink* (btw, the name of the house is the John Dick House).

Now for the hot air balloons.  Unfortunately, there was too much wind for them to fly today (Saturday).

We were sitting on the LA side of the river, these pics are actually on the far side of the river in Natchez

The rest of these were taken on the MS side of the river.  Some of these are taken at or well after dusk and all are w/o my tripod (was lazy and didn't want to tote it).

Needless to say, this balloon belongs to a dentist.

do you know the varieties of the roses??  I'm trying to place the lavender one.  I know the dark read looks like a Mirandy, but can't place the first one.

Great shots of the houses!  Just like what they are building in the subdivisions now! Grin  Southern architecture has style unlike any other, even of the same time period.

Great shots of the balloons, esp the ones lighted by the burners.

I'll look on the tag of the purple one later on.   It smells heavenly though!  I'm not quite sure what the real dark red one is, but I know it's not Mirandy (I have that one  and Mr. Lincoln).  I also have a red rose from Canada called Papa Melliand that is probably one of the best smelling roses that I have ever raised.  You can't get it in the states (or at least you couldn't when I bought it).  It is heat and drouth hearty.

Some of those houses were built in the late 1800s, early 1900s, so I"m figuring they were either paid for with old money or possibly river boat gambling.

The balloon festival is growing at a phenomenal rate.  Hopefully, next year, I'll get to go and photograph it.
