Some of you here may not know, but DJ suffers from a very rare cerebral vascular disease called Moyamoya. He was diagnosed after having a stroke which lead to two brain surgeries to revascularize his brain. In a recent study published the odds of this are 1:2 million (as if it wasn't bad enough to have clusters). after being diagnosed and not being able to find sufficent information on the internet. Then and there (like ch.com) he dedicated his life to reaching out to people who had been affected by this rare disease, giving them all the information they needed to make an informed decision about surgery.

This article is about a young woman who is a survivor of MM disease because of DJ. I am so proud to know her personally, and the accomplishment she has achieved. I hope you enjoy this article.

Wonderful article, Steph. Many thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I'm sure that only some of us are aware of what DJ has done for sufferers of Moyamoya disease...creating the community at moyamoya.com, in the same way he has created this--our home.

It's an honor to "know" DJ (although we have never actually met). He's proof that one person truly can make a difference in this world.

DJ was telling folks about the successes he had at Stanford and encouraging people to seek proper treatment. From what I could see, his efforts helped several people avoid death. Zipper head indeed.

I remember the 1st. convention in Atlanta and Elaine presented him with a plaque and he shyly got up to accept it. He said, I just started this site. The rest of you "RAN" with it. He has said something similar at every single convention.

With Moya-Moya being a life-threatening condition and CH isn't...he has more to be applauded for.

And as a side-note, I get to see him in a week or two at Standford..so neener-neener. Grin

DJ found a way to bring both CHeads and Moyamoya sufferers together to share their pain and their triumphs.

The numbers of lives he has saved are unmeasureable. Steph, you and your boys are so very blessed. We share him through the forums, but his huge heart and generosity are what you live every day, and you all deserve each other, because you took us all under your wing, proving your heart is just a huge and as generous.

This young gal is truely a survivor in the greatest sense. thank you for sharing her dream with the rest of us.
