So yesterday (Halloween) was day one of a local radio station's switch to all x-mas music, all the time.

WTF!?!!?!?!?

And also the stores that sell nothing but Christmas items... I feel for the people who work there. You get to where you ignore it, and it's no fun anymore.

(I did switch my browser theme on one of my computers to "Tinseltown", which is a Christmas based theme, because I like it, but it'll change after Jan 1st.)

I used to be a Chrismas music nut when I was a kid. I used to look up all the family's Christmas music CDs and LPs and listened to them when I was home alone. I started in November... Grin

Now when I'm grown, I love to listen to Christmas music, I do, but these days I'll start in Mid December, and usually when I'll start the Christmas baking extravaganza.

What comes to radio stations in here, I have not heard any Christmas music yet.

About a month or so ago a local radio station changed their format to sports talk beginning January 1st.  Some nitwit decided to play Christmas music until the switch over to sports talk.  Who wants to listen to Christmas music in the fall?

Thanks Mel.  I feel better Smiley

Thanks Mel! What is WMYX thinking? I mean it was 65 here the day they started playing the music!

We start the x-mas stuff around here the day after Thanksgiving. That just seems about right.

I will put up the outside lights today when I take down the Halloween stuff, but only because logistically it makes sense. We won't light them until after turkey day or until it snows, whatever comes first.

Not a fan of government regulation by any means, but the first candidate that stands up and says he/she will outlaw public displays of Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving has my vote and a Franklin for the campaign.

I spent yesterday afternoon shopping, the not fun kind, groceries, ect. I started at a drugstore. We found bags of candy all 50% off inthe front of the store. The aisles where the Halloween stuff had been were being loaded with Christmas candy and other stuff. Next stop was Walmart. First thing we saw were Christmas sweatshirts. Christmas music played. The Hallmark store had more CHristmas cards then Thanksgiving cards. Next weekend is open house to kick off their season. I thought we would be pretty safe at the Pet store but no such luck. Lots of squeeker toys all various Christmas shapes. Even Panera said they will be getting in their Christmas breads next week. On a positive note, most of the stores were giving away Halloween candy. I felt like i was trick or treating!!

To add to the already ridiculous - i work in the pet care industry and CUSTOMERS were already asking when we were putting out the x-mas outfits for dogs. This was Friday - Halloween!

We actually already have some of the x-mas toys out - mostly because all the Halloween stuff was mostly sold out and we had to fill the spaces - but heck - let's get through Thanksgiving first!

Dress your dog as a turkey for a few weeks before putting the silly Santa hat on it! The dog will hate you for it either way.

2 years ago, they started it around Thanksgiving.

Last year, WMYX started it on Nov 1 - apparently it's quite popular. Then again, all it means to me is that I'm only listening to KLH now (at least until Thanksgiving)

I like Christmas music but geeze.....However, we have a terrific grocery chain here (Wegmans) that likes its customers. When they play music of any kind, it's almost too quiet to follow. I love them. K-Mart on the other hand...... Shocked

On the other hand......The Salvation Army does a LOT of good.  Maybe they NEED  to start early getting in winter coats and blankets and food for the cold months.   I don't begrudge them at all if they start early and I contribute to each and every one of them.

You are right Linda. Bad me. It's just that it REALLY feels like Christmas marketing has begun when they come out. Our school takes one Sat. at the local mall. It's good for the kids to participate in.

Salvation Army is my favorite. I always find some good clothing and even a little money for them.

Great people.

At the risk of sounding like "nephew Fred" , I truely believe Christmas, yes "Christmas", not solstice, or holliday, but CHRISTMAS, is the only time of year when the average human tends to treat others a bit more kindly. With a simple smile, or by saying "hello", or wishing a "Merry Chrismas", and even giving to charities. Volunteering their time for bake sales, or toy drives, whatever the case may be. This world gets uglier and more violent every day, and if we can make this season of "kindness" last even one more day for just one more person, I say God bless it ! I get EXTREMELY tired of hearing people complain about the buisness side of Christmas, or, " God I hate this time of year, its rush rush rush, and its all about money". Well folks, Christmas is what YOU make it out to be!!! plain and simple!!!!! You can make it rush rush rush, spend spend spend, or you can treat the season as a child, ,,,,,, TOTAL JOY AND HAPPINESS!!!!!  Its your CHOICE.     Yea, your right, my house does resemble Clark Griswalds a bit, and I and my family love every blessed second of it!!!!!!   Oh,,, and,,, God bless us, everyone!!!                    Tuck

Hey Tuck,

To agree with your point and to clarify - my post wasn't complaining about "this time of year" - I love X-mas.

That's the whole point. It ISN'T x-mas time. Playing the limited selection of x-mas music in July for 6 months doesn't make it x-mas time (or enjoyable) any more than putting up a plastic palm tree in 3 feet of snow makes is a topical paradice.

And maybe people wouldn't complain about x-mas time so much if they were not burned out of it by the time it actually arrives.

Then the retailers will complain that the x-mas rush wasn't that good and the economy takes a hit every January. Well if you give people 3 months to prepare there won't be much of a rush.

Anyhow, off my soap box now.

Oh, and Merry Christmas!         Wink
