I dont get how they predict it with 14% of the votes in.  You would think a poll would be more accurate.

Lol, here's a funny one: McCain has 62% of the votes in NM, but MSNBC has already called it for Obama.

Shocked

I hear you Jonny, but I really would be shocked if it didn't go the way the exit polls are showing.  I can accept that I'm in the minority and I'm ready to disengage debate mode.  I won't be tuning in to any Obama celebration coverage, but I don't think the world has ended either.  Time to just accept it and move on.  They ran a brilliant campaign.  Now, they have the House, the Senate and the Presidency.  Can't wait to see what they do with all of that power.

Not much doubt now.  I'm seeing the numbers that have been called at 207, and California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii have yet to be heard from.  Those are 77 electoral votes.  Assuming that they all go for Obama (which is expected), then it won't matter what happens in Florida, Virginia, Indiana, and North Carolina, where the race is tight.

Fu's right.  Time to move on to what's next.

All the best,

George

When they call a state it has to do with polls and if they are not well beyond margin of error, then they go by returns and base them on the places the returns come from and historical perspective.

Many states were called with no returns based on polling (not just exit).

After 2000 and 2004, it would be shocking to see states called and be wrong.  CNN has waited a lot longer than anyone to call states and even they have it over.

Obama has won and will win with a majority popular vote as well.

I hope I am wrong about him and he does a great job economically.

It's happened. I don't have to be happy about it. I don't have to reconcile. I can look forward to midterm elections in 2010 and make sure that those who share my values get an election campaign that will reverse the legislative majorities they have gained here tonight.

They have worked since George W's first election to denigrate the office of president, to negate any electorate result, and portray anyone who would continue to support our president as an idiot.  It has been noted and won't be forgotten.

F*$@ the results, look to the future and fight for our country.

(Oh, hi everybody. Hope all are well)

Only 14% of the vote counted and we get this....

Obama triumphs, will be first black US president

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama was elected the nation's first black president Tuesday night in a historic triumph that overcame racial barriers as old as America itself.

The son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, the Democratic senator from Illinois sealed his victory by defeating Republican Sen. John McCain in a string of wins in hard-fought battleground states — Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Iowa.

What a crock our media produces.  California polls didn't even close when they were saying this.  So much for EVERYONES vote counts.

Linda,

The electoral votes from California weren't going to matter in this election almost any way it could play out.  I know it hurts when you realize how much that sucks, but it isn't a surprise.

This election may be a religious experience for some, but I hope they remember what they asked for when they actually get it.  And maybe it'll all be roses and sunshine.  Who knows?  I know we can't change the election, so we goota move on and get on gettin' on.

Interesting.  Do YOU always get what you want when you vote for someone?  Probably not.  And you probably get a whole lot of what you don't want.

Think about that - not everyone is as dumb/relgious/messianic-follower, etc. type as you peg them to be.  Overwhelmingly the majority of the electoral votes - by a landslide - for one.

So its over - its not the end.

Right - not worth the trouble.  so predictable.

The thing is you deserved it - you've previously thrown your share of insults already so one good one shouldn't hurt, should it Wink

Thought I'd better check in.

Tomorrow it's Obama's turn to piss off his own party. If he does this now and then, he'll be doing a good job.

No matter your politics, it's stunning that a black man won and 61 percent of the votes came from whites. It's going to take time to understand just what happened.

Wow, pretty gracious way to take a victory... I think I've been pretty restrained.  The fact that the country elected him does not suddenly change the my view of the wisdom of doing so, so I don't understand where you get your rightousness from from at the moment, but I'd suggest you save your anger for somebody who actually did insult you.  I don't remember insulting you, and if I did you didn't bring it up or give me a chance to apoligize.  Pretty damn incredible.  Congratulations (again) on your victory.
