Getting down to serious stuff now....

tonight is the FIRST THURSDAY in the MONTH and You all know what that means.... yep RED HAT NIGHT.....

This Old Broad is all fu-fued up (took a bubble bath and it ain't even Saturday) and READY to hit the big city of Linden. We're meeting at the Highway 59 Cafe tonight for Chicken Fried Steak and all the trimmings (not to mention a little fun and games that we bring with us).

Picture it, if you will, about 10-12 sweet little old gray haired ladied in all their finery and their RED HATS, taking over the Cafe and ALL BETS ARE OFF - We're the entertainment for the EVENING!! We have NO rules - we just make 'em up as we go.....

And we'll probably party hardy till at least 8 o'clock or maybe (if we're really wound up ) 8:30 -- Wonder if Linden TX is ready.... Sheriff has been notified and promised to drive anyone home who gets to "sleepy" to drive on her own.

So ya'll keep the light on - Granny's gonna go get one more spray of fu-fu juice and then hit the road for town......

For those who aren't quite sure just what the hell Barb is referring to, it's the Red Hat Society, a group of ladies 50 or older (younger ladies can join the pink hatters~pink hats and lavender attire). The group was actually started as a result of this poem.

WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple

We had a great time. Yep we waz all wearing the purple and the red hats.

somebody in the place (didn't know 'em) was having a birthday party. We went over and sang "Happy Birthday to You" then told 'em to cut the cake and "share" and no one would get hurt. They cracked up and we got dessert!

Next month we're going to the "Tin Star" (they KNOW us in there) and we're inviting the local newspaper to join us (My idiot son just hates it when Mom gets on the front page of the paper, but when he sees his two AUNTS there too - well, I just love to embarrase the little twirp!).

Oh well, gotta rest up now... only a month till I have to do this again!!!

One day when I was going to work, they were lined on both sides of the Ouachita River Bridge with bottles of bubble stuff, blowing bubbles. Yes, they were wearing red hats and purple outfits. carolyn

They are a funny organization for sure.

I had a call from one of the groups a couple years ago.
They wanted me to come show about 20 of them how to shoot shotguns/skeet. OK.....so what am I getting myself into but I said I would.
It was silly.....they laugh and giggle about everything. However, they were serious when I put a gun in their hands. Only one at a time mind you.

They had a great time and I didn't get shot....
