Oh geez Mark.  How did it get broken, do you know?

Glad that you got it checked out, sorry about the surgery.

Glad someone figured out what the hell was wrong.  Hope the surgery goes ok.  Not having a foot to walk on is going to suck.  Good luck brother...

Apparently the first 2 Dr.s couldn't read an x-ray, huh?   I am so sorry, it had to come to surgery.

Maybe it could have been avoided if the 1st. 2 hadn't gotten their diploma from the University of Quack.

I hear ya Mark!

Broke my collarbone a few years back and I worked with it for two weeks before surgery.

Doc says, "Does it hurt?" I said on a scale from 1-10 its about a 2 as I was taking off my gold chain from around my neck. He was actually wincing while I was doing this and said "How can you even raise your arms above your head? Barb, who was in the office with me said to him, "He gets cluster headaches and this pain is nothing to him" Barb Rocks!

So, even after surgery and a 6" pin through my shoulder for 3 months, I still have a broken collarbone that has healed over. Evidently I broke it again after he removed the pin. I never knew Undecided

I can still through a football 55 yards though Wink No kiddin Wink

Bummer about what you went through but I have to disagree with the statement that our high pain threshold works against us.

I would hate to think where we would be without it.

Hope all goes well with your surgery.

No picnic.........I like that. Glad he understood though.

I think you're right a about clusterhead pain thresholds though. It always gets me that while I understand the reason for pain, why doesn't it have a volume control? I mean, I get it that something is wrong but I don't need to be reminded of it at suicide levels.  Angry

I'm sorry that you have to go to through that! I wish you a speedy recovery!

I've experienced the whole "high pain threshold getting me in trouble" thing my whole life... I never think anything is wrong until it's snowballed into something that we can't control. Then again the high pain threshold comes in handy when my hip pops out of place... It doesn't seem to hurt near as bad as it used to, now that I have clusters.

As far as I'm concerned, cluster busting has been the best treatment I've tried. No migraines since I started it, and my hits have gotten so much better. Wanna know more?

Lisa went through a similar situation this past Aug. She had a car accident on a Tuesday. Finally got to the ER Sat. to check out her wrist because the lawyer made her. They said it was sprained and to see a specialist to be sure.  week later the ortho said it was broken but to see his partner who does wrists and hands.  She had already had 2 sets of xrays. When she finally got into the hand specialist she learned she had a very bad break and needed to have a screw put in. I'm with Linda, why didn't any of the 2 previous doctor's see this, especially the ER doc who missed it all together??? Good luck with your leg!

Real MIXED feelings about this subject. The above really resonates with me. There have been times when I could not imagine being able to survive THIS pain. (That I still have my sanity is a constant marvel)...

Over the years, I have learned that, yes, you can...oh my...and most anything else is just an annoyance.

Yet, on the other hand, I once broke my hip, bruised every muscle from my fingertips to my toes, probably tore a bunch of stuff and it hurt like a bitch...When the emergency room doc asked for my pain level I related it to ch and said "2". BIG mistake, they then assumed, well then, it's not so bad, let's get this guy out of here. Same with the orthopedic doc who consulted...BUT, God Bless the emergency doc, even after x-rays revealed nothing...he must have had a feeling based on my symptoms and sent me for a CT...yup, cracked hip socket that if I had walked on would have crippled me...

So...I need that pain threshold and am extremely grateful for it...and yes...it could have dire consequences.

Best wishes on your recovery echo!,

Jon

I would have to aggree with the high pain threshold.  After the ruptured disks in my back I ground my ankle to shit.

Good luck with the surgery Bro.  Hope all is uneventful and you have a quick recovery.

Mark , you're gonna be just fine.   You've got your first family on your side as well as a much bigger 2nd. family rooting for you.

If it's o.k. with you I'll light my Catholic candles for you.  They were blessed by my Bishop and they seem to work wonders.   Wink

Echo,

That sucks man.. I blew out the left plank 2 years ago and am not looking forward to the inevitable plastic and ACL repair in the nearer than distant future.

I did a 180 off a 4’ ladder as a wall was about to fall on me and fubar’ed for good.

Hop ya get a great rebound out of deal with a careful rehab.

Rolo.. Wink

I know what you mean.  If I even notice a pain, I know it is at least a 5 on a normal scale, in case the Dr asks.  So our 2 would be a 7, normal.
