There were squads and ambulances all over the place in the area all afternoon.  There was still a squad with lights going, and the news camera rolling at after 5PM this evening.

Now tell if I'm wrong...but from reading this it seems that the officer gunned down this un-identified man without cause.

I was on my way back from dropping Dyl off at the football field for a Pep-Band performance, and I saw the ambulance leaving the scene with no lights and no siren.

I'm no CSI or expert in anything like this.  Jimi if you could give your input I'd appreciate it.

Ok, where I come from if you get pulled over and the cop says "jump", you say "how high".

This moron was in a stolen car.  Gets pulled over and then takes off on foot.  The officer chases him down and then felt sufficiently threatend that the following unfolded...

Quote:
That officer used his pepper spray and tazed the man twice but Morris says he was still uncooperative.  The officer then shot the man twice in the chest.  He later died at St. Michael's Hospital.

If a normal person is sprayed and tazed they get real cooperative.  This guy was clearly not in his right mind.  I'm thinking chemically enhanced.

On the surface it sounds like a good shoot to me.

I hear you Dennis, but I was under the (possibly misguided) assumption that an officer would need to be in a position that their safety was in peril to shoot an unarmed person?  There was back up there.

I don't know...thats why I'm asking.

Further story...

Quote:
STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- A police pursuit in Stevens Point leaves one man dead.. and an officer on administrative leave.

It happened this afternoon around 2.

Police tried to take a man into custody because they suspected he was driving a stolen car.

When they approached him, police say the man fled the scene and additional officers set out after him.

One caught up with the suspect in a neighborhood near the high school on Second Street.

Police say that officer tried to apprehend the man and the situation became physical.

The 14-year veteran then used his taser and pepper spray before shooting the suspect twice in the chest.

No other officers witnessed the event.

The man died at St. Michael's hospital.

Stevens Point Police Chief says, "There was a lot of restraint displayed by the officers of this department all the way through this and the ultimate outcome is nothing that any of us ever likes to see, but sometimes those things happen."

Police say the identity of the suspect is unknown at this time, and the officer's name has not been released.

He is on administrative leave while outside departments continue to investigate.

Police expect to release more information next week.

I always thought the office had to consider his life in danger before shooting someone. Unless this guys was the Incredible Hulk, if he was unarmed I don't know how the officer could have seriously considered his life in peril to the point of shooting the man TWICE in the chest. Especially if backup was there.

Of course the details are unknown.

I thought we were gonna get to together?  Oh well, hope you and the gang stayed warm, and that the hunt was successful.

Pegg, go ahead and make plans because there is so much crap happening here due to hunting coming up that I cannot pin point a date and time at the moment.
