Holy CRAP am I sore!
Nov 10th, 2008 at 10:14am

Good God!!  On Saturday I bought a stationary exercise bike because I have gotten fat and depressed so getting into shape is a big part of improving my overall well being.

I just did 5 min on that thing and it was TORTURE!! Shocked

I hear ya Mel.  I just got finished doing 20 minutes on my ellipitical machine.  I thought I was gonna have a heart attack.  I just decided yesterday it's time to shape up.  Maybe we can cheer each other on Wink

Mel,

we have one of those bikes as well. It was originally my dad's, but I'm the one who has beeing using it over the years and I know exactly how you feel right now!

It's very wise that you begun with 5 minutes - that's what I did and in the beginning that 5 mins sure is enough... Baby steps, that's how its done! Wink

It's great that you're taking the time to take good care of yourself. It's important. Smiley

YOU CAN DO IT, Mel! Smiley I know you can.

So....I bought a six hundred dollar bike that goes nowhere.  Methinks it's more valuable as a coat rack.

Mel, do you have that thing adjusted right? You should be fairly comfortable riding it, it's the soreness afterwards that gets ya.

Sanna- After I got on it and started peddling, I realized there was NO way I could do more than 5 min.!  My knees hurt, my upper thighs hurt and my upper arms hurt.  I figure I'd do a week of 5 min. a day and then up the amount of time from there. Smiley

Chris- Yup.  I'm THAT out of shape. Embarrassed  The soreness went away after about 10 min after doing my really, really, really, really short exercising though, LOL.  I have the resistance set at zero and realized that you could also loosen the tension belt strap that goes over the wheel too afterwards.     I thought I was buying a coat rack.  I bought it from my buddy,  it was covered in coats,
scarves and gloves. down on that flat strider spot is where they had their  boots.  I been ripped off.

Hey Mel,

I started  a Spinning class about 5 months ago.  I was so sore that I thought I might cry.  The first class wasn't all that bad but getting on the bike the second time was terrible!  I actually had rubbed some skin off ( I won't say from where Undecided).   If your tail is what is bothering you , you can buy padded biking shorts....They help...a little.

Keep it up, though.  I feel so much better when I exercise.  I haven't lost a pound though Sad.  Guess I need to give up some of my calories too.  I just LOVE to eat!

Mel, you might want to start out excersizing every other day or do 5 min one day and 2 min the next.  Give your muscles time to get rid of the lactic acid.  It is what causes soreness in the muscle.

This is not meant to thwart all of the encouragement - good for you to better yourself - You are becoming quite good at it - but, from where I am sitting you seem not quite in need of vigorous exersize.

Sorry.  I just gotta ask.  Why are your ARMS sore Mel?  You're supposed to pedal with your legs.

With a little modification to this bike or coat rack, you could come riding the trails with us. Grin

I admire your determination to get the most good possible out of your coat rack, but consider this:

Sweating is Mother Nature's way of saying, "don't do that".

It's a simple philosophy, but it has served me well.

All the best,

George
