So, I've decided now that since "dirt"is good - to stop cleaning house. I NEED the germs!!!

Ok, seriously, I do think we take kids to the doc way too much and give them way too much meds. (us too). When we come down with the "sniffles" or worse around here, I mix up some spice tea and put a big dose of cinnamon snapps in it. Ya drink the nice tea after a really hot bath, then go to bed and sweat the old cold out. Ya feel much better come morning. (Caution - do NOT drink the tea while in the bathtub - you will NOT like the results! The cold will be the "least" of your problems!)
Also, if you're really coughing bad - Rub your feet with Vicks salve - put on heavy socks and get under the cover and go to sleep. Wouldn't hurt to rub your chest also.
A tablespoon of honey with about a 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon for a few days will help with hacking coughs (smear it on toast if you can't just take it out of the spoon).
And of course Granny has a new batch of cough syrup made up for the winter season!
My mother had a sure fire rememdy -- A pint of PRUNE JUICE. She had this theory that a good cleaning out would CURE about anything and quickly. It usually did and we were never sick much.... (at least around her!

)
Hope everyone has a really LIGHT flu season.

One year, I started getting the flu, body aches, etc, when I was working one night. After work, I went to the liquor store next door and got some Tom & Jerry mix, which is kinda like a thick eggnog batter. You take a coffee cup, put a shot of rum and a shot of brandy, then fill it to about 2/3rds full with HOT water. Then take a big spoonful of this batter, and drop it in and stir. Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon on top and enjoy. I had 2 that night, and every sip was like being in a hot bath. Every single sip I was saying AHHHH. LOL Still felt like crap the next 2 days, but it was nice while it lasted that night.
Usually, I fix hot lemon tea with honey, and add a shot of Jim Beam. Soothes the sore throat and works on the body aches. One does the trick, after a hot bath, then off to bed.
Feeling better today, thanks everyone for the well wishes.

One thing about antibiotics is I never take them when I'm sick. I don't even ask, unless I have strep throat, which used to find me quite often. I haven't had it in a year or so. Using anti-biotics for a virus is a waste of time, plus it makes bacteria more resistant to them.
Also, one thing I'd like to mention. When you get a script of anti-biotics, take them all until they are gone. Stopping them when you feel better also makes bacteria more resistant, and there are many A/B resistant strains of bacteria, like tuberculosis for example. It makes them harder to treat, makes the treatment last longer, and who wants to take pills any longer than you have to?
I remember my grandmother had a A/B resistant blood infection, and had to be treated with vancomycin, via IV, in the hospital and it was the strongest A/B at the time.
