Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy."

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

My question to you is: IF the people rose up against the goverment, do you think the military would cut us down?

yes. i cant watch the videpo but look what they did to those people in waco. it seems that when the second amendment is brought up it's always tied into hunting. the second amrendent has nothing to do with hunting. the right to bare arms and form a militia. its sounds crazy nowadays but it wasn't so crazy backwhen the constitution was writen. keep in mind though jonny the reps dislike the militia part just as much as the libs dislike the gun part.

It wasn't the military that cut down the people in Waco, it was the DEA and the FBI same as at Ruby Ridge.

And no, being married to an active duty member of the USAF, I do not believe the military would cut down the citizens. 1) it is illegal to use the military on US soil, that's the job of the national guard 2) most active duty military have sworn an oath to uphold and defend the CONSTITUTION of the United States of America, against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC - every one that I know takes that oath very seriously and would question any order given to them that is unlawful and any officer (including the commander in chief) who issued an unlawful order.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I think our NATIONAL Guard should be strengthened HERE and not sent overseas. As for a militia - isn't that what the National Guard is? They're called out for National emergencies and uprisings in Domestic things.

As far as gun control goes. These "underground" societies are going to get weapons (regardless of what laws are enacted). I see no reason anyone needs to own a machine gun for "personal use" or an assualt weapon either for that reason. I have an arsenal at my house and as far as I know, none are even registered (a lot I've had for 100 years - some are family heirlooms).

I'm sure there are reasons (military ones) for some weapons, but in the hands of these "rebels" who do not recognize OUR constitution or the laws of the US - in my opinion, they need to be stopped. I'm speaking of the "cults" who brainwash ignorant people into believing they're standing up for the good of mankind or something or nuther. Joe Jones, Waco, Ruby Ridge -- these things need to be stopped, but making new laws isn't going to stop them. FBI and DEA are only going to make "heros" out of them (they'd screw up a train wreck). These people are dangerous to our country and need to be rooted out and stopped before they harm more innocent people. That's where we NEED a National Guard (or militia) - to protect our National Interest.

And that's my 2 cents worth.

Please! No more internal secret police or militia. We already have enough of this shit. You can't run through a red light in Buffalo without getting on city video and this thing goes only in one direction. I am hoping that Obama is referring to his idea of a C. C. C. style program.

I've met some militia types over the years. Most of them are pretty silly but the ones that aren't can be scary. Lots of neat weaponry these guys have though. I hope they use them to tear apart 55 gallon drums rather than softer targets.

It's impossible to ban guns in this country.

I hope you refering to the gov. watching citizens. I think there should be more citizens watching gov. if you ask me. The melitia as the founding fathers intended was a means of last resort for the citizens to take an out of control government back if the republic the fathers set up failed. We do not need MORE gov oversight of the people.

If you're referring the the Obama-Hitler connection....that's old and has been used by several right-winger radio screechers. I've heard it applied to others for some time. As I said; it's beyond stupid and has little relation to the way in which Hitler finally came to power. You cannot compare American democratic process to 1920s German electorate.

That's strange. He speaks directly to Fred Thompson (even shows Fred's picture). Ain't no way Fred Thompson was on that committee, he left the Congress in 2003. When you watch the second part of the video, *Senator* Thompson questions Mr. Johnson. Unless Mr. Thompson was reelected (and I can't find any evidence to support this), there is NO way this was filmed in 2008. I find a small blurb on another website that indicates this video was made in 1995.

I read the article and being unfamiliar with the site, I still had questions about Rahm's comments potentially being taken out of context. After hearing the responses in his own words and tone of voice, I find it chilling. Isn't this still America?

Yes, I know it's from 2006, but it certainly helps illuminate the character of the man who is our next Chief of Staff in the White House.

I voted for McCain, and for Bush before him. But Obama is now my (our) president. I probably won't vote for him in 4 years, but for now, he's the man. I'm hoping we can put a lot of the bitterness of the election behind us, (not all of it I know, we are only human Wink

) and get behind putting the country back together. That means we gotta stop the attacks...as fun as they are!
