My simple cure
Nov 14th, 2008 at 6:29pm

Dear fellow cluster headache sufferers, PLEASE READ MY STORY, it changed my life & hopefully it will do the same for you…
Hi my name is Andy, I am a female, 45 years old residing in NJ & I am a recovering cluster headache sufferer. Thank God I found a cure On my own cause after 17 years of suffering with the debilitating, suicidal pain & seeing every kind of doctor you can imagine & taking all kinds of prescribed drugs, I found my cure & low & behold I found my cure On this site 8 years ago & decided to visit back here to tell my story in hopes of helping others. It all started back in the early 80's, I was in a terrible car accident & my head went through the windshield causing severe trauma to my head... if that wasn't bad enough, after I recovered from the hospital, one day out of the clear blue sky I started getting what felt like a cramp over my left eye & I knew immediately something was wrong. Slowly the cramp became more intense & within minutes it felt like a knife had jabbed into the side of my head. I never felt such unbearable pain before in my life. I had no idea what was happening to me as I'm sure most cluster sufferers know & ran the gambit with doctors... MRI's, cat scans, ect. My biggest fear at the time was cancer, blood clot, stroke, ect. Then as quickly as it came, it went leaving me wiped out not knowing what had happened, thought everything was fine then 4 hours later it came back. My first bout of cluster headaches was approximately 4-8 attacks daily & lasted for a month or so per cycle. When they went away & all the doctors conclusions came with no severe ailments, I was relieved.. then like clockwork exactly 1 year later they came back with the same process. Once again reaching for doctors help for any kind of cure & believe me I've tried them all.. I was one of the first trial members to use Imitrex & Sta-dol & numerous other medication for typical migraine headaches because there was very little information on cluster headaches. Most of the doctors just thought I was trying to get some quick pain killers & never believed me. I suffered annually for 17 years until one day I stumbled across this website 8 years ago.  I was relieved to be able to network with other sufferers who truly understood the pain & when I was reading the section on possible treatments, everyone was giving their friendly advice & one gentleman was very adament that when I suffered the initial cramp to drink a can of Pepsi as fast as I could… he swore up & down that this was the cure… he said & I quote “If the cluster headache was a werewolf, the can of Pepsi was the silver bullet” I personally thought it was a joke at first but I figured what the heck it couldn’t hurt. So we stocked Pepsi in our house & when I started getting the cramp, I did exactly what he said & IT WORKED, honestly within minutes the pain started dissipating & was gone with no repercussions. At first I thought it might have been a fluke because sometimes the cramp starts & goes away on it’s own & never manifest to the full head pain. I was excited & relieved but still not 100% sure. The next time the cramp came, once again I did the Pepsi trick & again gone in minutes. For the entire month I was able to battle the attacks with a simple can of Pepsi… I was never so relieved in my life so I please urge all that read this to at least try it, the Pepsi trick. Other soda’s may work as well but I never took the chance. It may not work for everyone but I’m here to say that it has now been 8 years since my last cluster attack & there’s always Pepsi in my fridge in case the beast comes back. I truly hope this works for the fellow sufferers & the family members. Take very good care & God Bless.  Smiley Andy

Never never ever call a Pepsi a cure. Maybe abortive would have been a better title.  Cure leads me to believe one Pepsi no more ch forever.

We're really gun shy around the word "cure" here, it rankles many on the board! Wink Glad to hear you've found a "treatment" that aborts your attacks. If the pepsi by itself ever begins to lose its effectiveness, your next step is an energy drink containing both caffeine and taurine. The caffeine in the pepsi has a vaso constricting effect on you which is what halts the progression of the attack. The taurine in energy drinks actually speeds the delivery of the caffeine, kind of a one two punch!

Hoping you never have to escalate the treatment, do stick around as you can never have too much knowledge against the beast!!

Good grief....like anyone could even read all that without their eyes going crazy. So I didn't.

Paragraphs are our friends.

There is no cure for CH.   Period!   Only ways to deal with it.

Don't know what you're pushing but since my friends here say it's Pepsi, all I can do is laugh.

Excuse me for trying to help... I didn't know I was going to be insulted.

No I don't have any connections to the particular soda company in question, it just WORKED for me & I had that remedy work for 3 years until they finally stopped but who knows if they will ever come back.

I haven't had a drink of alcohol in 8 years in fear of them returning. Does anybody know if alcohol is connected?

When I am on cycle, (and true for most) alcohol is poison! For many it'll bring on a hit within minutes, although there are a few who can get away with drinking. Off cycle I enjoy my blended whiskeys, micro brew beers and merlots with no fear of the beast. Alcohol has never started a cycle for me, but is avoided while on cycle!

Please try not to be sensitive about the responses. We get a lot of quacks who come through here offering to cure us with berry drinks from Africa, vitamins from the east, all exotic cures which they can get us a deal on. (you haven't seen rude responses until you've seen how we dispatch those trolls!!!) And there are many on the board who just have a sarcastic sense of humor to how they respond. Wink

If you suffer from CH, stick around and expand your knowledge. If it's truly CH, it will morph, and what works now, won't work later. One of the more annoying traits of the beast. Wishing you pain free days.

Hi

So if I understand it right, and the cure to our malady is as simple as the one this thread is all about.

I wonder if the (little) founds for research for CH should be diverted to improving the mentioned product above.

And I wonder why did I waste my time with with ONS, and O2, and ONB and other methods, and
running around trying to promote research.

I just simply had to go to the next gas station / store and get some cans and, MIRICLE I am cured....
how stupid was I ?

Tks. For this enlightening post! BTW can it be mixed with Rum..... like that every time I have a mix
drink using the miracle product ..... I add to the cure process..... I am a lucky man...... I am happy......
I can get drunk.... and know that I will never have a CH episode again......

Pepsi isn't covered under most insurance plans though.

That's why most people go to Canada to get it.  They gotta wait 3 months to get it though, due to the socialized medicine.

Honey, you don't know what real insults are!

Isn't this just special. We're going to get lessons o how to insult properly.

Just like you don't know what real cluster headaches are!

Are you so dumb that you think you are the first person on this site to drink Pepsi?

If you read her post, you'll see that she isn't the first. That she actually learned the tip HERE, from someone else. She didn't say she was the first. Want to take back, or own, the "dumb" part?

Maybe you can fool yourself into thinking that you actually had clusters, and that Pepsi cured it.  Go right ahead, just don't try and push that bullshit story here, OK?

So you're going to diagnose her based upon what helps her? You of all people are going to question someone that says they have clusters?

I guess we WERE due to get another snake oil quack in here ...

Snake oil? This post has nothing in common with snake oil salesman posts. Were you just digging deep into your bag of insults? If so, you pulled out an inappropriate one.

[/size]

Andy, try to learn what a paragraph is.

People ending their sentences with the word is, should not be correcting other people's grammer.

Enjoy your life.

Enjoy your Pepsi.

I do respect you and your work, your dedication, and I even share some of your believes about CB, I just do not use them for practical reasons, and I do mention the alternative way at every chance I get, for the individuals who are interested to know more about CH.

But, I did not like your last comment, and I quote “This place just never changes....or grows up.”

….you are very much right, we do react at times harshly towards statements like the one we are discussing “My simple cure“, Bob even you don’t have the magic bullet, and I don’t recall seeing you go around and claim you have the cure, so it is natural that some of us jump when we see the word “cure”.
I have done my share of experimental treatments, some did work to a certain extent, some failed, some have laid the ground work for further R & D but I have never dared to even think to use the word cure, it is as if one has it all, and I am some what sceptical with posts that have the word cure…… posts that have it all.
Not only that the word cure has been abused, in this post it came some what at a very “interesting” time….. after, what was it 8 years, some what very odd to wait so long to proclaim the salvation.
Secondly Cure for CH, for all, you must be joking, by its nature the word cure intales no need for dependency of any further use of any substance be it main stream meds, or alternative substances, or be it normal commercial products.
But if the person that posted this thread needs to still store the magic product for a re occurrence of the Ch episodes then its not a cure; its is just another substance, just another tool and not a CURE!
So the Individual posting the initial thread should be careful at how he / she words their threads, proclaiming salvation / cure is a remainder of prefatory acts, and that is at any time questionable….. and does stir the “pot”.
I understand that the apparently the info was initially on one of the boards, I could not find it, and I wondered that it never found a follow up, like the one with the energy drinks……

Bob this time around I think you have hurt your integrity some what in my eyes, and yet, I still find you, your work, and dedication extraordinary, and you have my full respect!

Sometimes people here sicken me.

Pepsi contains caffeine doesn't it? Aren't we always preaching coffee and red bull? Peoples tolerances to caffeine vary y'know. I find just plain pepsi or coke used to help with shadows and in case all have you have forgotten - caffeine exacerbates "normal" headaches.

There is no need for the degree of ugliness displayed here.
