Stocks rallied today on choice of Treasury...

Secretary Tim Geithner.  Does anyone know much about him?  All I know of is what's on Wikipedia.

Honestly, I don't think it has to do so much with his background as an end to uncertainty.  As head of the NY Fed, he's worked closely with Paulson recently, particularly on the Bear Stearns sale and the AIG rescue.  It's more that he's a known quantity, than a particular quality, IMO.

The market has been heavily shorted, and today was options expiration.  The large sell-off was on volume in front of this, and on this news, people couldn't afford to be short.

Don't worry - we've got existing home sales, preliminary Q3 GDP, consumer confidence, durable goods orders, personal income, personal spending, and new home sales (among others) next week.   Wink

Supposedly level headed and can deal with the other creeps that enjoy economics. Worked for more than one President, I think.

Grin  Gary believes Bozo the Clown might have been a better choice.  I told him that just dates him.  Wonder if Bozo's still going...

Geithner worked under Summers (Clinton's Treasury Secretary for 1 1/2 years).  I think he worked for Rubin too.   Roll Eyes

You're right Laurie. I couldn't remember both names. My understanding is that he managed to get along with them both.

Thanks.
