Update photo light therapy
Nov 25th, 2008 at 9:31pm

On a previous post, I asked if anyone had tried photo light therapy. My husband's cycle always comes around when the days get shorter. He started getting that "pinch" behind his eye and knew what was coming. He got his oxygen and his Topomax as he's done previous years. I thought, "what the hell." We'll give it a try. I searched on the internet and found a photo light therapy light.( I'm not pushing any product, this one was the cheapest. If it didn't work, I wasn't out much money. I bought the $49.99 one.) Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register
I can tell you that since he started using it he's felt better and hasn't even had a hint of a CH in 4 days!
Now, please don't forget he's on Topomax and started that, I believe, earlier than previous years. ( He always want to believe this isn't happening again and waits to get his meds.) I just wanted to give you this information in hopes that it may help someone else. I have no idea if this is a fluke or it's because he started his meds early. Either way, this needs to be looked at closer. If it stops them this year and works again next year then we'll know. I'll let you know how it goes.

Still no headaches, (Dec. 14th.) not even a hint. He even braved a beer with no effects. When he goes to the Dr. next week he'll discuss this with him and see what he thinks.

March 9th and no headaches! He had a slight "shadow" in February that o2 took care of quickly. He is now taking 1/2 dose of Topomax and will be done taking it completly next week.
My husband skipped a year in his cycle about 10 years ago so I don't know if that's what this is or the light therapy worked. I can tell you when he skipped a year there was not a single hint of a headache. This year he had one headache and two instances of "shadowing." He had all of the other symptoms like snoring and extreme fatigue but no pain.
I have taken good notes and we'll just have to study and compare next year.

Awesome to hear he's catching some pain free time, no matter the cause. Do keep a detailed diary of how you used the lights, how his cycle usually works and how this may or may not have affected it. It's how we all learn!

"Somebody had to say it" is usually a piss poor excuse to be mean.

I ordered one of the lights from the site today. I figured it couldn't hurt and it might help with the winter blues, too. My hubby doesn't think melatonin has any affect on anything, but maybe I can bring him around, too, and get him feeling younger. He worked third shift forever and if he doesn't have prostrate cancer, I'd say that's a miracle - melatonin is supposed to help prevent that.
Kip 3-4 hitting - time for a shot.
