OK, a few days ago, I brought up the question of where you were when JFK was shot, and what were you doing.  It got me to thinking, of other world news days, and where we were.  

First of all, I have to get this right out front, I forgot where I was, and what I was doing, when Moses came down from the mount, with the Ten Commandments, so don’t ask me.

Here is my remembered list of “BIG” days:

The earliest one, is the day that the U.S. sent the first man into outer space.  At the time, it was a big hoopla, although I was not very impressed with the short flight up, and then right back down.  I was in the fifth grade, with Mrs. StCyr as my teacher.  She did something astronomical, on its own, by bringing in a television set into the class room, so that we could watch it.  I think I was more impressed with that, than the actual flight.

The next event, was of course, Kennedy’s assassination, which we already discussed.

The next event was man landing on the moon.  I was in the Navy, but visiting family friends, in the southeast corner of Pennsylvania.  A tiny town called Toughkennamon, PA.  I can remember going outside, that evening, and looking at the moon, and being totally overwhelmed at the thought that human beings were up there, as I was looking at it.

Next was the tragic explosion of the space shuttle.  I was working for RCA Global Communications, and at a customer’s office, just off rt. 128, in Needham, Ma., in the third floor computer room, working with Sandy, the company’s communications officer.

And the last biggie, was of course, the 9/11 attack.  I had the day off from work, and I was out riding my horse, with my niece and her horse.  We were having a great canter, alongside this field of cotton, when I got the call, on my cell phone, from my partner.  We decided to close all of our stores, and send the employees home, as we had no idea what more was going to happen.
