office christmas parties.......
Dec 3rd, 2008 at 2:28pm

Every year we have a small office pot luck and party and usually do an ornament exchange or secret santas. This year we are trying to think of something different. Any ideas?  I really would like something different that the same ol thing.

You could have everyone come dressed up as their favorite Christmas character and have a prize for best dressed.  Maybe play Christmas bingo?

We always do the secret Santa along with a White Elephant gift exchange.  It's always funny to see who ends up with the statue of a wolf with one ear that has changed hands for the last nine years.  Watching that little jewel change hands 5 or 6 times before the end is great fun.

Ok, stepping out of character here, I know, but this has been a hard year for soo many families. may I suggest, rather than another scratch-it or chatchke everyone doesn't need, how bout you find a way to collectively help out a family?
We are longstanding members of  car club. each year, we contact a church, or several churches, begin passing hats at events and surprise a less fortunate family with a Christmas, gifts, turkey, the works! Our Christmas party is always an opportunity to provide blankets and stuffed bears we donate to the police Sunshine Division, who, in turn, give them to children to comfort them in difficult family situations. We make a party out of decorating our local Ronald Mc Donald House for the holidays, and make an annual Toy Run, again, to a local childrens' hospital.......we did the gift exhange thing, the ornament thing, we stole and swapped, and I can't think of as thing we've brought home from these parties, but it's with warm heart and the real spirit of the season I recall these parties and the piles of stuff we can collect!

PS-Do you know you can get over 400 bears into a corvette if you take the top down? Ya can't drive it, but........dats a lot of bears!!!

Cathi,

I agree with and our company as a whole usually does this annually as well. We have 90 employees and every one pitches in and donates. It is a good feeling to do this. Especially when I was in this situation last year and some angels helped make my daughters Christmas a little brighter!  Smiley  I am in a better spot this year thank the lord above.

Anyway in addition to this we have a pot luck and some type of exchange. Kinda of over the whole thing. It can be fun if some wants to steal something but no body really gets into and last year some one got mad when her ornament was lifted  Cheesy Roll Eyes

Agreed, Gina, which is why we chose to abolish it..some people buy extravagant gifts-even breaking the guidelines, and otherds had no taste whatsoever! Some of the stuff was BLECCHH! Guys  especially got screwed, coz they're so hard to buy for at best!
Maybe each person could buy X number of lottery tickets, then they could all be shuffled and dealt out equally?
Or, each person bring a gift and they all go into their own plain brown bag.....do a trivia kinda thing, and as someone answers correctly, they get to pick a bag/////or, once, I assigned everyone a number...we did Trivia, and the one who answered correctly PICKED a number//THAT was the person who picked a bag..I dunno, actually, the whole thing has been beaten to death, and we are all jaded!
I am soo happy to hear this is a better year for you, Gina! Aside from the office party, I hope your Christmas is filled with joy and laughter!
