Paul,
Gil writes me a letter every year. It means more to me than any gift he could buy. I have a small album he bought one year, just big enough to hold the letters. He is not a man of words, so, for him to do this truly touches me heart.
Perhaps a collage framing some wonderful words??

Just a thought......

THIS, is what I would LOVE from my husband.  In all our 15 years of being together (married for 11 come January), he never tells me how he feels about me.  Amazingly, I've been flying blind for this long... Cry

Aww, Melly..some men just have a difficult time expressing themselves.
For our first Christmas, he got me a beautiful sewing machine...and my first letter.
One year, he brought me a beautiful string of pearls(in bed...on Christmas Eve ).....and my letter.
Each year is a little different, when the kids were young, they, of course, were the focus. The constant is his words.
This year, we are busy downsizing and prepping for our beach house. We have been spending like drunken sailors......and then, my washer and dryer went pflooie.....have you seen the prices??  Shocked

I'll be very happy with my letter this year........
maybe you'd like to share this with Jesse? I'm certain the love is there-it's the inspiration he might need.........

There ya go!  Greet her Xmas morning with a string of pearls hanging for the old "pearl string hanger", if ya get my drift.  Sounds like a win/win.

Lots of alcohol

We do not drink

writes me a letter

Good one...thank you

how much are you willing to spend?

Unlimited...however, we still remember when we used to be a paycheque or two away from being homeless and now after several years of rediculous indulgence we no longer want for any material goods....my wife volunteers full time for several charities and fundraises for others, and twice a month on a saturday, cooks all day at home preparing a meal for forty which she takes to one of the various downtown churches which participate in the  out of the cold program for homeless people in the winter months. It gets hard to do something special for someone that always does special things for others.

last thing I would ever want is my mushie thoughts on the wall for posterity

the letter is scaring me now

shotgun

what?

how about a weekend away

We have three homes we split our time between and we have a getaway planned in the new year with or without CH.

Gil writes me a letter every year. It means more to me than any gift he could buy. I have a small album he bought one year, just big enough to hold the letters.

This idea is good...thanks

string of pearls hanging for the old "pearl string hanger",

LMAO...hhmmmmnn... she likes pearls...haha

Thank you folks

It seems like you can afford it so may I suggest a romantic weekend away just for the 2 of you, complete with a limo ride, red roses, champagne and chocolate on arrival, and you treating her as if she is the last woman left on earth  Smiley  plus a small memento like a gold locket or charm to commemorate the event for years to come.

After reading this, may I suggest if you really want something grand, get together with the people running the charities she works with and organise a luncheon where all the people she has helped get together to celebrate, with her being the guest of honour. Maybe a plaque of some sort can be presented commemorating her hard work and dedication in helping people less fortunate. The people she worked with might like to present that and you can write her a letter telling her how much you appreciate her and how lucky you are to have her by your side.

8 years ago, I bought my wife dance lessons for Christmas. This was after we'd been married 20 years. Best investment I ever made! 8 years later we are still taking lessons and dancing together. She raves about the thought that went into it, and what it's done for our relationship!

(Warning, dancing is MUCH harder for the man then for the women, you have to decide what step you're going to lead, then you have to LEAD it! But it's a blast!)

If she doesn't "need" anything material and you're not the mushy type, how about making a sizable donation to a charity she might not normally give to?

Sponsor some hardship cases in your local Little League,  call the local elementary school or a local church and see if they have a family that could benefit from you buying them Christmas presents in your wife's name?  Adopt an immigrant family (legal please, but that's MY bias) and show them a bit of the American Dream . . . . Feed all the dogs and cats for a month, or a week, or a year, at the local shelter . . . .

There's so much need and so little to go around.

Since you are in the financial positon to do so, might I suggest an annual scholership in your wifes name to a local insitute of higher learning?  Let your wife determine what the qualifications for this honor would be.  Maybe to her or your al mamatter?

She seems to be the philanthropist sort.  I'm sure she would adore this.  As it helps others.

ETA: And it's a gift that keep on giving.

Paul,

Your wife sounds like such a wonderful Lady.

By any chance do you help her when she is cooking the meals on weekends?  If you do, cool.  If you don't, maybe you could pitch in to help her...ya know, support her in the causes that she holds so close to her heart.

Help her do the grocery shopping for the food that she needs to cook the meals.  Help to do some of the cooking.  Pitch in with the clean-up, dishes or delivery of the meals, etc.

I think it might make her happy to know that you are giving your time to help her to do something that she really enjoys.

Women really aren't that complicated.  We just need some support and help once in a while.   Wink
