Dairy, I Don't Remember Eating Dairy...!?
Dec 13th, 2008 at 6:17am

Diary - the theory is it's a trigger. Butter, milk, cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, ranch dressing, etc... Well, yesterday, I had no dairy and I had no CH. The first day without at least 1 CH in over a week.

In bed I had some corn chips, rice/beans, w/ ketchup (don't judge)  and in about 5 min the beast started rising - so I think it was the ketchup b/c I don't ever ever get them at night (b/t 9pm - 2am).  In fact night time is usually when I am pf and "energetic" a bit. AND I've had rice and beans and chips b/f and never got anything. This was nearly instant.

I sure hope your theory works for you!  It would be GREAT!

But, please don't put all your hope into that.  One day is not enough time to decide.  Sometimes the beast just skips a day or two, just to mess with our minds, I think.

BUT, it sure would be nice if you figured out what works for you!!!

Good LUCK!!!

Chuck

I eat grilled cheeses and toast with ketchup. >_>;;;

Everyone says I'm weird for it. Sad

You may want to double check the ingredients of everything you ate, though. No idea if corn chips use dairy or anything similar in them. I know a lot of people mentioned MSG as a trigger for them.

As far as I'm concerned, cluster busting has been the best treatment I've tried. No migraines since I started it, and my hits have gotten so much better. Wanna know more?

Triggers can be funny. If I injest a trigger while in cycle, like whiskey, BAM, a hit within 10 minutes. If I avoid all known triggers, I can reduce, but by no means eliminate, my attacks.

Good to monitor your triggers to reduce your hits. I certainly wouldn't recommend using that as your only tool in the battle. But certainly a useful tool! Good luck.

Beans and rice in bed hon? I am so grateful I dont sleep next to you and have a root beer for me will ya? They dont grow them things in Denmark. They just eat fatty meat GAG! I havent had much dairy for about 2 months due to a severe bout of food poisoning and pnumonia where I could not eat but one tiny meal of cup a soup and 4 or 5 crackers a day so I could take my meds. I had at least 9 and up to 17 cluster headaches every day. Stupid doc says there isnt anything he can do right now. Wants more tests and then maybe after the first of the year. ARGH! Hope the no dairy helps someone else though. Sophia

Yep. Every time I was convinced I had found a trigger - I realized later that it wasn't. Not saying this is true for others, just what I know about mine after 12 years of being chronic.

I would be one happy camper if I could reduce the hits by avoiding triggers - that would be wonderful.

Don't forget Carl, there’s gluten in the bread! It’s just water for you…

If I would have stuck to it, I wouldn't have the extra 15lbs I gained in the last three months.

For me, alchohol is the only trigger I know of for sure.

My daughter is extremely allergic to any form of dairy. You would be suprised where you find it. The smallest trace will stop her breathing and she needs an epi pen. Check your packaging. It is in some chips, about 50% breads and lots of other foods. She has been dairy free since Summer of 2004. It's been the best thing for her asthma although she still has CH so who knows!

Is there any alcohol a CH can drink while in cycle?

That seems to depend on the person. I do just fine with mixed drinks, but the smallest bit of wine triggers worse hits for a few days. Others can't stand any alcohol.

Alcohol, any type, will set my CH cycle in a tail spin.  I used to work a full time job and part time at a bar.  During cycle, it seemed like just spilling alcohol on my hand would make the rest of the night and the next day horrible.

The only other triggers for me are uneducated doctors and medical staff.  Oh, and the ignorant health insurance company workers.  HaHaHa!!!

When I've been at 1200 mg of lithium a day for 3-4 weeks, I can sneak the occasional beer and get away with it! My way of telling the beast to fu@% off! Even with the lithium at full force, grain alcohol will level me every time.
