My cocktail - Verapamil, O2, and red bull!
Dec 13th, 2008 at 8:29am

Well the week for me got brighter.  Earlier this week I entered full cycle with only a box of expired zomig.  Doom and gloom, sad attitude as I entered the high gear.

Saw my neuro, got some advice from yall on O2 usage and other things, and I am finally (fingers crossed) on a cocktail which has worked to abort 100% of my attacks for three days.  I have not had this sucess before, EVER.

240mg verapamil daily, 15lpm O2 with a non-rebreather, and RED BULL.  This works wonders.  In fact, I wonder how much of this is the red bull.  Yesterday I got one on the way to work, and brought a can of bull for the day.  Got an attack mid-commute and chugged the red bull, five minutes later PF.  No O2, nothing else.  I tried it again this AM for my 430am attack and same thing!

The O2 alone works much better- the first day or two it was very sporadic, but I think I got the hang on how to breathe it correctly, and get to it QUICKLY, and success!!

Thanks all for your help, fingers crossed that this continues!  This place rocks.

A reliable abortive is a beautiful thing! Kinda changes your whole outlook towards the beast. That's great news. Smiley

My DH says that mixing a calcium channel blocker like Verapamil with large amounts of Taurine as are found in Red Bull can be extremely dangerous to your heart.

Google Verapamil+taurine to learn more.

I got the same medical journal gobbledegook that you did when I googled it (who knew Doctor's have their own language?).

DH can't find the link he read on the effects.  Someone here might be along to save the day with a link or two.

If not, ask your doctor about the combined effects.

(I'm back to the general board where I belong)
