Getting OLD is NOT for sissies....
Dec 15th, 2008 at 2:41pm

As most of you know, they got my birth certificate mixed up with an elderly lady and think I'll be elgible for medicare soon.... SOOOO, today I decided to get it all in order..........

I spent from 8 a.m. till a little while ago trying to get it straight what and when and why and how much..... this is not for the faint of heart...

Ok, so the medicare is automatic (if they have the right address - so maybe I moved a couple of years ago and forgot to notify them and they sent some stuff to the OLD address...) Anyhow we got all that straightened out, but then I had to call someone else for the SUPPLEMENT policy...

So I call up my friendly AARP (after reviewing the policies online) and had to go thru some stuff with them (I already knew what I wanted and how much it was going to cost me for goodness sakes). We finally got that tended to and it's all nice and in order as soon as they send me the papers to sign and I send them the voided check (well, you save two bucks a month if ya put it on a bank draft).

But THEN we get to the PART D and that's where the confusion started BIG TIME. I don't think anyone understands it. Dwight tried to 'splain it to me and the more he 'splained the more confussed I got. After about an hour we finally got down to "Ok I take topamax daily - how much is it gonna cost under YOUR plan and how much is the premium to get it cheaper?" And that depends on whether I get it locally (oh we did look up my local pharmacy and it's in their "network") or whether I order by mail. The co-pay is cheaper if I order a 3 month supply by mail. I can save $9 on it and $21 on the Trazadone. But when he got thru looking up everything, it's gonna cost me about 16% of what it's costing me now. So I took the RX plan from him.

So now all I have to do is wait for March and I can get sick, go to the doctor and it's not going to cost me much of anything. Now if some screwy politician just doesn't screw with my program I'm gonna be in good shape .........

And it only took half a day to get this done... Think I'll go lie down for a while now -- I'm plumb tuckered out...

Hugs BD
