I agree with Tom. I'm sure that there were many many parents calling the school and ragging on the staff about the situation because it caused hardship for them.

My wife is a teacher and I'll tell you that if she emailed lessons to the parents when schools get closed, the assignments wouldn't get done.  You would have a handful of kids do it, then the rest of the class is behind.  She teaches inner city but I think this could apply anywhere, that even in this day of age, not everybody has or could afford to have a computer at home.

But you want to talk about letters from the head of the school district.  They sent one to every teacher in the district spelling out how may absences they had the previous school year and how they need to improve it.  My wife had 36 "absences".  She was on friggin maternity leave.  Needless to say, the union complained about the letters and now the school district has to issue a public apology in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Edit to add:   My husband's family is from TN.  His grandparents were cousin!  LOL  ( I'm not kidding)
