CH side eye is always blooshot - anyone else?
Dec 21st, 2008 at 2:41pm

Hi everyone.  It's both comforting and horrible at the same time to know I'm not alone with these CH's.  Since I can remember starting to get them about 10 years ago, the eye on the same side of the CH has been progressively more and more bloodshot, and never goes away.  I'm not sure if it's related to the CH's or not, but my other eye is completely fine, and eye dr. can't find anything wrong with it.  Today the eye is always completely red with no itching, blurriness, or anything else.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Gary's eye not only droops, but often dilates, and always the whole area around the eye puffs up - it basically closes - and it becomes very bloodshot.  But it doesn't stay that way.

Sounds like you've seen an eye doctor for testing?

Not only is mine bloodshot but I even pointed out to my doctor my concern that I am noticing that the blood vessels in the eyelid are starting to rupture I have like three places where it is noticable and right before attack the blood must pool in those areas, very scary looking. I would tell your neuro to take a look at it if you feel you trust that doctor.

First of all, if you have any doubts? Or worries? Go ahead and get it checked out by an opthamologist. If it really bothers you, the tests are pretty quick and painless. If it puts your mind at ease, I'd say it's worth it.

Now... for my own experience? My bad eye, my left eye, has lost vision drastically since my cycle started. I asked the neuro, he said  they saw that happen a lot.

I also had one ER doctor comment that he didn't think I had CH because my eye WASN'T bloodshot during a particular attack. With me, it's random. My eye may or may not become bloodshot. It always droops or swells shut, but the pupil changing, or it being bloodshot isn't usually consistant with me.

As far as I'm concerned, cluster busting has been the best treatment I've tried. No migraines since I started it, and my hits have gotten so much better. Wanna know more?

My eye becomes bloodshot on one side of that eye. The eye also becomes swollen, and my vision is blurry because of it. When I'm in high cycle, the whole eye is red, droops and the lid is swollen.

I saw an opthamologist, and he gave me some drops to reduce the redness (steroids), but it didn't work. I use saline eye drops now, it soothes the eye when it feels hot and grainy, like sandpaper. It's the blood vessels swelling. And it seems to take a long time to go away too.

My left eye gets bloodshot during a hit, but not otherwise.

Best,

George

I know, before my son knows, that he has a hit coming because I see his eye turning dusky pink.  It gets progressivly redder until the headache is gone.

The redness in my eye during a hit would always leave with the headache, too.

In cycle my hit side eye is always red, droopy and watering. It takes months to get back to normal... but even normal isn't normal.

Yes, always bloodshot, gets worse before a hit... Indomethacin helped it clear up so much that I considered staying on in despite it doing squat for CH. It did cause an ulcer though, so that went out the window.

Avoiding other things that seem to cause an allergic reaction seems to help it be less red, but otherwise nothing helps.
