Best Gifts we gave this year
Dec 26th, 2008 at 12:08am

Anyone care to share their favorite(s) of gift given this year?  i'll start.

We gave my mother engraved spoons with a saying on it that she says when she prepares food for her grandchildren.  Sounds weird but my mom loved it and it was something she never expected.  she will be able to prepare this specific food with the engraved spoons from now on.  Made her feel special

I got amazing gifts this year but that isn't what this thread is about.

Next?

A boxed set of oil paints, and a pair of anatomy books for Ellen.  You know how someone looks when you've done something exactly right?

It's been smelling of turpenoid and linseed oil around here today.

Best,

The gift I gave with the best reaction was to my 4 year old nephew. I made up a stocking with candy and little things as well a some toys. I'd wrapped some trading cards up - 5 packs, each individually. When he opened them, he jumped up and down in excitement! They cost me 30p each. Why did I bother with all the other toys!!  Roll Eyes

The digital picture frames!  We ended up giving one ornament one and two 7"'s.  They went to my Grandma, my FIL and to our neighbors (who are also Ava's Godparents).

I even found time to go through almost all my discs to fill them up.

I found the very first pic of my Mom with her two sisters when she was only 5 years old. I made it into a 9x11 format, touched it up just a little to get rid of the "yellow" tone and framed it for her.
The look of surprise and joy on her face said it all. She was amazed how well the photo looked afterwards!
That made my day!!!!! Smiley Smiley

to Hannah - a pair of tickets to Celtic Woman (wish y'all could've seen the look on her face)

to Harry - a Flip camcorder

to Darryl - a TomTom

the BEST gift was to my ex mother-in-law - the Ex came here to spend Christmas with the kids and we got on speaker phone and all called her.

Ditto.

We bought the kid's Grandmother a key chain style digital
picture frame [pink] similar to this one

& loaded it up with pictures of the kiddos.
I said to her "Now you can have them with you and see them
where ever you go, anytime you would like."

She openly wept when explaining how much the gift
[& the thoughtfulness of it] meant to her.

Sometimes it's the little things that can mean so much to a person.

I made a book for my mom using the blurb.com self publishing program.  I filled it with quotes from her favorite people and pictures of her, me, Maddie, my dad, and my brother.  It is called "There's Nothing Like A Mama Hug."  It was really fun to make and soooo hard to keep a secret, but she cried (happy cry) when she opened it and read it and said it was her best present ever.  Smiley

The best gifts we gave this year were the Fisher Price Shopping cart to my 11 month old granddaughter, who is now walking, and the Fisher Price Sing Along Stage to my 5 month old granddaughter who is discovering lights, sounds and shapes.

The best gift we received was having both granddaughters with us for their first Christmas, and getting to watch their wonder and awe as they looked at the Christmas trees, their excitement in playing with their new toys, and the thanks that we gave to God for giving us these two glorious children.

We were blessed.

Sandy
