OK the guys who wrote the Facebook social engineering program are nice guys. So is Fubar for that matter. So nice people screw up. Nothing new there. And they screwed up big time. Even the guy who started Facebook can't remove his information from it. And he took it all the way to the Supreme Court, and was told sorry for your luck kid.
You want identity theft possibilities. Facebook is your place. Go for it. You just gave up nearly all hope of privacy in your life. Just do some research on identity security and Facebook. No matter how good a face they try to put on it. You are still screwed.
Jonny thinks he deleted himself, but all of his info is still there. Sucks don't it Jonny?
Anyway do your homework, make an informed decision. Its your life.
Think of the little weasel government man not only looking through all the stuff you buy or look at. But looking through your pictures and your cameras lens into your personal life and into your home. Invading your privacy without so much as the thought of a warrant as he reads all of your messages and emails. And that of your friends. Big brother hell. Little weasel is the one to watch out for.
Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean their not out to get you.

YMMV Smiley

Always read the licensing agreement AND the Privacy Policy. Very important. Because when you check the box that says "I Accept", they've got ya.

I read the TOS for facebook and it looks no different than TOS for yim, aim, skype, etc.

Google how to permanently delete (not deactivate) a facebook account and you'll find plenty.

Personally, I've enjoyed getting to know people from here on a different level and thru different venues.  My life is brightened by daily interactions with some of those people and for me, the "risk" is well worth it.

Kirk,

I don't think the problem is Facebook.  Having a Facebook account doesn't make you any more stupid than having an email account.  Conversely, having a Facebook account doesn't make you any smarter either.  People just need to be more aware about what they are sharing and how it could potentially be used.  More importantly, people need to be aware of how to protect themselves.

I use Lifelock for identity theft protection.  I'm not so worried about ID theft that I have to avoid things like Facebook which provide me with a lot of enjoyment.  YMMV.

I don't really understand that either, Jonny - I'm anxious for the answer too.

I'm a recruiter and I use Facebook all the time to check out Candidates.  I actually did place someone I found there.

Of course, it is a double-edged sword too - the  younger generation thinks it's a good idea to brag about their intimate escapades and join groups that are blatantly illegal....  we recruiters see that too as do their current and potential employers.  It can be as personal as you let it, I guess.  I have to admit though that when I see a candidate that is crowing about how drunk they got the other night or how much pot they smoked certainly does change my opinion of them...
