Lithium side effect?
Jan 1st, 2009 at 3:22pm

I was wondering if any of you lithium users have ever developed a rash?  On my back, I have numerous circles or semi circle blotches.  I'm now taking 900 mg of lithium and 480 mg of verapamil a day which has gotten rid of 99% of my headachs.  I've read where lithium rashes are possible, but little descriptive detail.

Thanks,

John

Are they painful or itchy?  Are they fluid-filled?

No, not really.  Just raised reddish areas.

I've never had that side effect from lithium. I use 1200 mg a day while on cycle. Certainly worth chatting to the doc about.

Err...That sounds like allergic reaction.

You need to get to a doctor. Even if it's not itching right now, it could be serious. If your mouth, or throat starts to feel odd in any way, or your breathing becomes labored, go to the ER.

As far as I'm concerned, cluster busting has been the best treatment I've tried. No migraines since I started it, and my hits have gotten so much better. Wanna know more?

Thanks so much for all of your responses  Smiley

I saw the doctor on Saturday and apparently I have a fugus thing going on.  The doctor said from possible being overheated sweating cause it.  I do ride a motorcycle long distance during the summer and wear an armored jacket.  So this was probably the cause.  I certainly didn't want to give up the lithium as I'm in practically total relief right now.  Smiley

I know when my niece first started taking Li, she developed a body rash, but it just went away after a few weeks of being on it. The MD said that this sometimes happens.
