Your Dad would have known what it’s like to be a chainman, when I first started in Surveying that was my job (a chainman) the chain was made up of 100 steel or wrought iron links measuring 8-12 Standard Wire Gauge thick by 7.92 “long & when you have dragged that thing around all day you know you’ve done a fair days work.

There are also other advantages of metric measurement as Jonny “The Mule” would appreciate, instead of having a 4” willy you can now have a 100mm one.
