I hope that your present docs have some knowledge/experience treating complex headache disorders. It's a difficult field for the general physician to master. If you feel the need to seek a specialist:

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to or Look for "Physician Finder" search box.  Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

Suggest you print the Rozen article and use it as a tool to explore treatment options with your doc. It reflects current thinking about treatment and your docs' responses will give you some idea of whether they know enough about CH to be able to help you.

Thanks Bob and Iddy !   Bob  you gave me lots of great links and helpful info.  I am working with the Neuro department at Hershey Medical Center, so far they seem to be cutting to the chase and I don't have any major complaints as yet.  One good thing is there is someone on call 24/7 & each Dr has a nurse who I report my Ch journals to that helps them to track the weekly ups and downs and every 4 to 6 weeks I'm back in thier office for follow up, med adjusting and brainstorm planning.  Maybe this is just a so so standard  procedure, do you think I could  be getting better care??    I'm going to be away for few days on business...Yuck I have to fly "which is a known trigger"  armed with meds but still know what the journey will mean for me.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Chad, as my imediate area is not humming with specialists of any kind.   I am fighting a Imitrex battle though, as I believe I'm perscribed to high a dosage (current 100mg) for abortive.  I feel it should be lowered, think the high dose could be causing some rebounding for me.  Nero thinks a lower dose will cause more rebounding???  They have agreed for me to try a 1/2 or 1/3 dose a few times to see how things go, what burns me is ya gotta really press the issue, they act like I'm trying to do something illegal.  go figure

Thanks for the score and break in half info, was trying to figure out how to cut them "a not so easy" so hate to sound dumb, but what are rc seeds?  I can assume its not what is going in the bird feeders?  I have never required more than 100mg dose of Imitrex in one day course our days are sometimes longer than other people ...thank god, maybe I expect too much but that stuff once a week is too much for me, I hate the chest pains I get from it...

Hey I'm going to be away for few days on business, so don't think I was captured by aliens, just going to TX to work Yee Haw!  Flying sets my CH off so I leave the computer at home and load up on meds instead.  Drug addict passing through check point C, if your lucky enough to get searched, they find your arsonal of meds and take four steps backward like you have leprosy.
