Tin Foil Hat Breakthrough!
Jan 10th, 2009 at 3:43pm

Just got a new cell phone, which gives off interference and can make computers, clock radios, TVs and land lines do a weird and annoying static sounds - its worst when there is an incoming call, but can happen randomly at any time even when there are no calls.

So, I'm reading about this online, and some people say you can eliminate it by wrapping the phone in tin foil.  They said it lets the calls go through, but reduces the static.  I had a heavy duty mylar bag laying around (from coffee ground composting at Starbucks). So I wrapped my phone in it.

Nothing. The phone would not ring when called from a land line, would not cause static! Unwrapped the phone, it said no service available! This plastic material seems to completely block the signal, but it is much stronger than regular foil and does not make the crinkly noises or clang like ordinary foil.  Although old-school purists may prefer plain foil, I think that this has real potential.  With a little duct-tape, I could fashion a nice jacket and pair of pants.

Is there a risk that Starbucks programmed the foil so that they can turn off the protective abilities while I sleep??

The outer boundary of what we currently believe is feasible is far short of what we actually must do.

I believe that tin foil is the best. The modern equivalent "aluminum foil" doesn't have the same properties.

It is possible that these bags work as well as tin foil. This might help me in my search for real tin foil, as I cannot seem to find any to make a hat to stop the governments brain scanning rays.
