Of late, I have begun to get more involved in actions directed at "Government" beyond voting. I have written to the Governor, signed recall petitions to oust elected officials abusing their office, written correspondence with my councilman regarding zoning issues and the Tax Assessors office for a recent doubling of taxes on the value of our home in the current economic climate.
My recent baby steps have been prompted by a mistrust of anything that spews from the mouths of our representatives on all levels. I am currently drafting correspondence to my Representatives in Washington. I don't know if it will ever be read by them but I feel compelled to do so with where we stand economically and what I read from varied sources.
Previously, I naively believed that, while a certain amount of chicanery was to be expected, the debate and ultimate resulting legislation was in the best interests of the People. I also believed that our voices were of little consequence and apathetically resigned before attempting to do anything and just begrudgingly accept our fate. I am no longer as evidenced by these baby steps.
Previously, I also discounted some of what I read as conspiratorial crapola aimed at self promotion and worthless causes by anti-government crackpots bent on anarchy and spreading their delusional beliefs. Some of these points of view were indeed outrageous but as I tossed those aside I began to notice other sources that exposed information I believe to be accurate and at the same time very disturbing.
I will, for the point of this discussion, limit the my point to economic concerns since these, to me, seem most sinister. That's not to say other dark things are excluded but with our economic crisis upon us I thought you all would be interested in reading one of the many web sites I find interesting.

Of particular interest, click on the October 7th article about the Fed.
What is scary is that I rarely see any of these discussions or stories in the Press and that is a whole different and equally disturbing issue.
This Country is in a world of hurt. We are all in a world of hurt and I plan on exercising my right of dissent in any way I can before it is taken away from me. Much work ahead.
