Wow!  Good luck to you chris.   One question though, ( maybe I am old and of course college was a long time ago for me)  but what class is' ite'?   And what do you have to do to earn 5 credits for a class?

Good luck, man!  I'm gonna hedge my bets this semester and do 9 hours- but it's upper level art classes, so I'll still be working my butt off.  Grin

ITE (Info Technology Essentals) is a class where you learn how to use office 2007 porfessional. its a required class. i figure i might learn a few new things i dont know about the program. im dioing that one online. ive already got the book and the software. it cant be that hard, just some reading.
'and to answer your 2nd questiion i have no fucking idea. i think its 1 credit per 10 hours instruction. my pharmacy tech class is 50 hours total and i get 5 credits for it. or maybe not. im just doin the damn thing. gonna work my ass off to get out of communuty and get into a university. thats my goal. even if i stay here and go to ODU. and i am going into medicine. i think after my core classes are finished, im going to nursing school to see if its for me. if not i can always fall back on being a pharmasist. i think ive finaly found some direction. at 31 i feel its a little late. but better late than never, right?
i chose the medical field because i figured when the beast returns the employer might by sympathetic and have my job for me when i get better. im so sick of going through jobs because of the beast. nobody has ever understood. a bet a pharmasist would understand. and thats who i want to work under until im out of school and can do it myself.
*sorry for the rambling*

When I was in school, you'd typically get 5 hours for a course that included a lab. They'd give you the extra hour credit for all the ungodly hours you have to spend on the labs, and then the lab reports!  Shocked

That's what gets my goat about studio art classes...you're expected to put in at LEAST twice as many hours working in the studio as you spend in the class, but it's still only a 3-hour credit.  Angry

We used to have three hour studios, twice a week, and that earned 3 credits a semester.  Still like that?

Yes, you can do something about it. Keep working toward your ultimate goal. Don't just stop because there isn't room in some class. I'm sure there's at least a hundred other things you need to do. Do them one at a time, do them very well, and move on to the next item.

And next time don't rely on anyone else to tell you to check on availability (or anything else). Put on your big boy pants and deal with it like an adult does - take full responsibility.

Yes Chris... that is one of the frustrating aspects of college. Well on the bright side you can take another prerequisite for that discipline while you're waiting for an opening in the fall. You may also consider taking fewer hours and not spreading yourself so thin.. that should give you more time to focus and bring your GPA up... with a higher GPA you will be qualified for financial aid in the form of scholarships.

at any rate... good on you for sticking to your goal.

with warm regards,
Tony

You can't take the other courses that you need?  You also contradict yourself.  First you say that noone told you to check on availability then you later post that kels told you to check.

I don't understand something, the majority of schools preregister and do it online.  Could you have done this?

Well Chris - look on the bright side - you'll know what to do next time!

Thats not much comfort and it's a tough lesson but next time ask everything. Ask what you need to do to register and when, if there is anything you need to do. Tell them you are out of the loop on all this as a mature student and need their guidance and don't take "no" for an answer.

Are there any courses you CAN do between now and September that will be of use at all? Extra credits are always extra credits and if nothing else, it will get you back into the discipline of studying etc.

Just a little warning here. If wanting to look for sympathetic employers who will give you lots of time off work for CH is the only reason for you to choose the medical field, beware that you are setting yourself up for a big shock and disappointment.

Doctors and pharmacists can be just as unsympathetic as the next person, sometimes more. When it is their business and your absentee is costing them money or causing inconvenicences, they will act like any other employers.

I have worked in the medical field all my life, and I did not find them sympathetic at all when it came to employees with sickness. In fact they expect a lot more from you.

Just thought I'd share.

What has become of the other classes, was there no other elective available to substitute, or just attend the classes scheduled that were available?

when this semester is over i will do like i do every summer and work. im sure you are all aware i live in a beach community, and summer, the tourist season, is when there is work here. i try and work 2 jobs in the summer so i make enough money to save a little. so no summer school. i will be working, hopefuly all summer. then its back to school in the fall.
ite is a hard class to take online. im gonna have to take it again in the class room in the fall. algebra starts in 2 weeks. and reading  is just a reading class.
