A test
Jan 13th, 2009 at 6:50pm

I haven't had a hit in days.

So I just drank 3oz of vodka (vodka tonic, a big one)....

All I'm getting right now is a shadow. And it's been over 45 minutes. I think that means my cycle is over. If I was still "active" it would have hit before now, right?

Dumb, I know... But I don't know how else to tell if I'm going to be ok getting back to my life as usual.

"Days" does not mean your cycle is over, although I hope it is.  You're pretty brave to test it that soon though.

Not sure why...alcohol has always been an instant trigger for me. So if i can take a drink and not get hit...cluster's are gone this cycle.

Yeah, the beer test.  I do it too--although I usually wait until I haven't had a hit or a shadow for seven days.  Some wait longer.

Sounds like you may have passed.  Good.   Smiley

Nothing like the feeling you get when a cycle's been kicked to the curb, is there?  <happy dance>

Best wishes,

George

Because Alcohol is a vaso-dilator.

I'm just over 1 hour.

I can feel the slight stuffy/pressure/mild pain (nothing compared to a real hit) on my normal side. (right)

But seriously, I'm walk and talking and it feels like a normal little headache. It just happens to be on the same side as the clusters used to hit.

I'm not going to drink any taurine, or take any melatonin, and I'm going to see if my 4am hit gets me.

My last time drinking I had a little one early in the night and a bad one after I went to bed.

For those of you who are chronic, I know I'm feeling really happy and hopeful that I'm ending my cycle... I can't imagine how shitty it must be for you not able to wave goodbye to the demon even for a few months.

As happy as I am to feel better, my thoughts are with you who aren't feeling the same way. You are the toughest people I have ever known.

This isn't bad, right now.

Wish me luck... And good luck to all of you.

Heath

Callum,

@linda pardon my ignorance, whats that ?

Not an ignorant question at all.  Our arteries are a manificent thing.

In a cluster headache attack those arteries swell up up...wayyyy more than they should and that causes us  pain.   A vaso-constrictor is what we need.  Hence oxygen, Imitrex and other vaso-constrictor drugs we take.   Alcohol dialtes out arteries..as does some heart meds.   Think.. narrowing the arteries during an attack as opposed to dialating them.

This a is such a very simplified version of what is going on but I could provide you with a more detailed and medical version if you want.

At last! A name! hehe...good luck, Heath...I keep getting one week reprieves, only to have it come back again; I hope this sticks for you.  You sound like the kinda guy that has balls of steel.  I think that will serve you well with The Beast.  Wink
