Question for the experts
Jan 15th, 2009 at 12:28pm

Hi I am a supporter and have a couple quick questions. The attacks are peaking. Almost all are at night 3-4 per night. We are considering trying Melatonin. Can you let me know if anyone has had any success with that and what the correct dosage is.
Also-does anyone use a CPAP machine for apnea and if so does it help with night attacks?

Thanks for your help!
Molly

My magic number was always 9mg taken 30-40 minutes prior to bed. It totally wiped out my night attacks for about a year.

read through this...
Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

and google todd rozen mhni for some further research regarding ch treatments including melatonin.

Previous research suggested 9-12 mg.
his recent studies suggest people can go upwards of 18+mg.

good luck and take back the night!

Hi Molly,

Lots of folks here swear by Melatonin to keep the night-time hits down.   Start off at one, maybe two 3mg. tablets and work up.   I've 9mg. works best for me. I suppose someone who is 6'4" and 300 pounds would want to take more than that.

Take it about 1/2 before your're going to go to  bed.

First off, thanks for being there and reaching out like this.  You supporter's rock!!!

Some have reported success with it.  Though like everything else nothing works for everyone.  I started with 6mg and went up 3mg every other night till I hit 12mg.  9-15mg seems to be the range folks settle in.

It seemed to help but made my snoring way worse so in the interest of marital bliss (and less bruising in my ribs) I don't use it anymore.

Be patient and don't rush it.  This stuff can take a week or more before you see results.

Lots of people with CH also have Sleep Apnea so there are lots around here that use a CPAP machine.  I've never heard one say the machine helped with the attacks.

3mg is recommended for an average sized adult to use as a sleep aide. If you are like our dear Luinda then one should be taking micrograms.

As far as using it as a preventative you would need to go higher than 1 or 3 most likely.

The only downside initially was that until it did start preventing attacks I was drowsy and would still wake up with a hit which wasnt fun but once it did work I was PF during the nights and well rested to cope better with the day time atttacks.

Eric the average sized male ( that's referring to my hieght you pervs)
