Energy Drink Question
Jan 24th, 2009 at 11:28am

How much taurine should an energy drink have to be effective... is more better??  How much is a good amount??

I seem to be having success with Starbucks doubleshot energy+coffee, but I am only having shadow and low level HA right now.  I want to be armed with the right stuff if the beast decides he can get past my wife and really attack.

I of course have my O2 and Zyprexa for last resort but since enrgy drinks are doing well for lower level HAs, I figured why not arm myself with some ready to go.

Eric,  I've never seen one that more more than 1000mg. of Taurine.  I would surmise that this would be the magic number.   Wink

Linda,

The Starbucks has 1800mg Taurine. Has Maltodextrin, L-Carnitine, Inositol, Pamax, Ginseng, and Guarana....... I know it has caffeine obviously.

I told my wife to pick up anything with taurine that is the least expensive.  I figure I dont taste too much of it so why buy stuff because it tastes good.

EDITTED TO ADD:  Thank you so much for your prompt reply, she is at the market now.  THANK YOU!!!!!

Hi Eric
You may be aware that I have been on the Taurine/Magnesium/calcium supplements for nearly 3 years now & happy with the results; the ammount of Taurine I have taken is 150mg/day as recomended by the manufacturer.
What I believe happens with Taurine & this is my opinion only is that it is a catalyst, in that although is does have some benefits alone it makes the other supplements work better, this is why I believe the drinks like Red Bull work, it’s the Taurine that enhances the effect of the caffeine, much like adding a turbo to an engine.

Cheers
Barry

I didn't know.  I have yet to have any "real" headaches this cycle,  just stronger shadows.  So far the Starbucks has worked but I also got RockStar as well.

Thanks for the info.  I am prepped pretty good if it gets worse for now.

Eric,

If there is a Costco near you and you are a member....buying the Rock Star by the case will save you a bundle.   Anything with the name Starbucks on it is expensive as hell, as I am sure you know.

You might want to check out Big Lots. I found several different energy drinks for about 60 cents a can with the same amount of Taurine as RockStar and Starbucks. There was one by the name of Ace with only 20 calories for the whole can.

For anyone in the UK: The ubiquitous Tesco is currently selling an energy drink called 'Kick' for 45p a litre.....exactly same ingredients as Red Bull and tastes exactly the same (spookily enough). I chugged a whole bottle this morning and am still shadow free 14 hours later.

All the best

Andy
