Prednisone - again
Jan 27th, 2009 at 5:38pm

I asked (as a newbie) about prednisone earlier. Now I am on second (and last says neuro) round to blast and hopefully term cycle (helped first round , but not gone)- took 80mg for 5 days-then taper.

Last few days, I have had some heart palpitations over weekend - my doc is checking my magnesium level. I am healthy-no heart problems ( have had occasional benign pvc's for years, but not like these palpitations)

I wondered if anyone else had had this experience on prednisone - and would it screw with magnesium levels - or just have some property in the drug that can cause palpitations?

thanks,

Joe W.

I've been on prednisone - just coming off a taper - and I've had sorta dizzy/palpatation type symptoms, but there's no way I can say if it is the prednisone, or the verapamil, sumatriptan, various herbal supplements, vicodin, energy drinks, ergotomine, or what ever else I'm taking at the time to try to quell the Beast...  I've never been on just the prednisone alone.

Edited to add: this post made me sound like Robert Downey Jr.  Outside of my clusters, beer, gin, and the occasional cigarette are my only vices, I swear! Wink

80mgs of pred. made me somewhat phsycotic once. I have had the palpitations before at the higher doses, soon after I started taking it. Checked out OK. Don't know about the magnesium.

I was on prednisone a few weeks ago. I don't remember palpitations though. I know I was Very Very hungry ALL the time. I was like a maniac  eating everything in site. Which I have a high metabolism anyway and eat twice as much as any normal person anyway. Everyone thought I was pregnant or a maniac.

i can only speak for myself here (of course) i have been on a 10 day taper of pred every 2 months for the last 6 months. while i am on it my pain recedes (i have constant pain between attacks) each time i take pred the side FX increase. the shit makes me feel like a humming bird! heart pounds! each taper neuro increases the amount of ativan to counteract the side FX but its never enough. cant sleep more then a couple of fitful hours. im angry constantly. my family and friends hate me when im on pred i finished a taper 2 weeks ago and i am still having heavy heart beats and moments of irrational anger (filling a script for 5 days of ativan this afternoon actually) the doc said next taper they will give me an antipsychotic drug while on the pred.......i told her...."THERE AINT GONNA BE NO NEXT TIME!!" lol

polypharmacy anyone? i thought poly wanted a cracker?

I started pred taper yesterday/ 60 mg 2 days then 50 etc.
I don't know what I would do without it. I'm at a new job 6 mo before health ins. when I had it they fought me about how much imitrex they would give, no where near enough tho.
I'm so spaced out on the pred today I called in sick. I feel like damn everything else, whatever stops the beast I'll do. suffering with the ch attack and then fearing the next one is more than I can deal with
