02 question
Jan 28th, 2009 at 9:21pm

Hey all!
I have a few questions about the 02. I think. Maybe some concerns? So I have read that many on the board are on 02 and it works effectively for some. My doc suggested it to me and we will address it at my f/u in Feb. I am think I am willing to give it a try. Why the he'll am I so worried about it? Ive dealt with these SOB's for 10 years with no medication! There are no side effects. Its freaking oxygen! Why am I being such a chicken shit?

I am currently on Verapamil XR 240mg before bed, 4mg imitrex statdose pen, and just finished decadron taper about 2 weeks ago. Im still having shadows at kip2-3. With at least 4 am kip7-8 maybe 2 nights a week. Im an episodic CH but this cycle is at least 4 weeks longer than usual.

Can someone give me a swift kick in the ass?
So can I have the skinny on when to use the 02, how long? and how effective it's been for everyone? Maybe I need some reassurance?  Undecided

You say you are on verpamile XR ... Is that extended release?  I think it is.  You might have better results to go with the instant acting version.

As far as the oxygen: Jump on it as soon as you feel the beginning of a hit.  The sooner you get on it, the better.

Stay on it for about 20 minutes.  You should be out of pain long before that, but stay on it to keep from getting bounce back hits.

Have you check out the information at the button on the left side of your screen: oxygen info?

There is a lot of good information there.

Good luck, and keep asking questions!

BTW, consider this a polite kick in the ass to get off the couch and GET OXYGEN!

LOL ..

Did that work?

CAUTION:  Do NOT smoke when using or around oxygen.  Oxygen can permeate your clothing or bedding.  Wait, before lighting cigarette or flame.

Keep fire extinguisher available, and charged.

As soon as I feel a hint of a headache, for me a twitch in the eye and a tightening feeling at the base of my neck, I fire off the 02. In 6-8 minutes I'm pain free. It works that fast. Absolutely boggles the mind!

One swift kick to your butt!!!! If it works as well for you as it has for me you'll be kicking your own tush cuz you waited so long to go on it! Read the 02 link on the left. Used incorrectly it can be almost worthless.

Wishing you luck!!!!

One of the biggest myths about O2 is that it's like having a bomb in your house. Oxygen itself is a nonflamable gas. It will however make the flame of a flamable substance burn hotter and faster. Reasonable care is required.

I am a 21 year episodic and have been using O2 for 20 of those. My cycles last for 6 months and I just ended one around this Christmas. My estimate is I stopped at least 50 Kip-10's with O2.

When you say it "works effectively for some", that some is 70% of us.. And in my opinion this percentage is low, with the newer equipment now available that many have not tried.

Last but not least, it won't hurt to try!

I think it's due to the stigma attached to people who require O2.  Once you find out that it helps you though, it makes it much easier to get past it.
