Need a Physician Greater Atlanta GA
Feb 26th, 2009 at 12:40pm

Hello Everyone,
Just started my fourth month of a cycle. It's been the worse ever. The worst because of duration and the fact I'm doing without meds. I just moved to the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. I need to find a physician in my area that understands our condition. Can't afford to go to the doctor , but can't afford not too. I will be paying in cash. Please help.

If $ is a real barrier talk to the social work dept at your larger hositals and/or United Way for possible sources of care.
=============

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register; On-line screen to find a physician.

5. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register Look for "Physician Finder" search box.  Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

Three hundred bucks should get ya a complete 02 setup.  That's pretty cheap.

Have you thought about trying to contact Emory University and checking to see if they have any clinics?  Most all (if not all) medical schools offer some type of care (and it is usually based on income).

There is a group of doctors specializing in headache therapy in the doctors' building next to the DeKalb Medical Center. These folks KNOW what cluster headaches are and can help - you don't have to convince them that there IS such a thing.

Neurology Specialists of DECATUR
Weissman, Joseph D., MD Shuler, Sara C., MD Norman, Michael A., MD
2665 North Decatur Road, suite 630, Decatur, 30033,....404.501.7555, FAX: 404.501.7550
Hospital Affiliation: Dekalb Medical Center
Insurance Plans: Most major insurance plans accepted, please ask us when you call the office.

My doctor WAS there, but left.

It appears that there is another headache treatment center at Piedmont Hospital. The number for Piedmont is  (404) 605-5000.

Sorry, I wish I could have helped you sooner!

Thanks for the info. I will definitely call them. March 22nd will be 4 months. I have never gone this long and its been HELL! The only good thing is that I know the H.A. will end at some point. The bad thing I know there is another coming. I am so thankful for this board.

Steven,

Hang in there, I to have been going through my longest cycle to date, never had one go beyond 12 weeks. I'm now in the 15th. I know what you're going through. My remission periods have gotten longer, so maybe it's the price I have to pay.

One day at a time. There is a lot of experience here to help you. O2 is my go to abort and can be had for a reasonable amount of money. It's safe and comparatively inexpensive, compared to the other alternatives.

Read the Oxygen info. highlighted on the left. You have lots of options and much support.

Best of luck,
Baer
