I was going through some folders on an old backup hard drive and discovered some pictures I hadn't noticed before, including this one.

Dennis says it for me!

Does anyone here know if it's true that JFK had some responsibility for the red stripe on Coast Guard ships? Sometime in the sixties, I'm told, this was added to our white-only Coast Guard. This is something that I heard many years ago. Supposedly he thought they needed something like it.

Marc, tell me that the boat being SO close to those rocks is just something you did with your camera.

Luinda,

Nah, they were about 20-30 yards away from the rocks. It's called compression.

In fact they can get very, very close because the waves traveling along the jetty tend to push you away from the rocks as the water bounces off he rocks - with a south swell. That's why we could surf along the jetty without getting killed.

Where was that one taken Marc? Moron Bay? Its a shame that they're phasing out those 54 footers for the new Gray Aluminium beer cans. I always thought the two smaller white life boats had more class.
