Did your check go up?
Mar 6th, 2009 at 10:38pm

Ours did $19, the Oboma Tax break I guess. So our state said they want that money. They added $6 tax to a carton of cigarettes. Plus they are now wanting to tax our food. There goes that $19 plus.

I am sorry just got back from buying grocery's, food prices are up again.
Gas hanging the same, it will go up when summer hits always does.

Took my cat to the vet today for a operations, they told me $250 then when we went to pick her up, price went up to $500 by the time we walked out it was down to $309 !

People who are working are finding it hard, I really feel for all the people who have been laid off. My Mothers SS went up $9 that really helped her a lot. My brother is so close to losing his land and home. He has been out of work for over a year. He was self employed, so he was forced to draw SS early, little over $700. No way can he live on that. It is better than nothing but Good Lord.

I am blessed that my daughter, and husband have jobs I know that.

OK going to bed now and asking God to watch over us all.

Night  Angry

Not Happy Elaine to night !

Starting to understand the fear in the eyes of my parents and grandparents when they'd talk about the big depression. Scary times indeed.

Tax-and-spenders have no interest in making people's lives better. They're only interested in power and exerting control over people. And this time they have us by the short hairs.

Joe last night I found a book my Mom put together for us kids, I pulled it out and started reading it. My dad wrote about his life and the depression what it was like. At the end he said the world will see it again if the government doesn't stop spending. This was written in 1976. He died in 2005. I guess God knew my dad couldn't take living through another depression. I wonder if my dad knew how right he was. I miss him, shit I need to go to bed before I start balling.

Sorry about your grocery bills, Elaine. Up here in my little town grocery prices have gone down or remained steady. Eggs are less than a dime each, milk is $1.99 a gallon, frozen food and vegetables are on sale more often than before the crash.....at least in the stores where I shop.

"Tax and Spenders," that old GOP saw used by them in their attempts to kill the New Deal..... It's simplistic and appeals to the elite haters who want us to look aside when unbridled greed threatens our safety and well-being on many levels. The "success" they have enjoyed under the Bush administration of under-funding to starve and kill government oversight is largely why we are in our lovely ecomonic position today. Other things like the FDA and the Surgeon General are the kind of "control" that is needed. They work.

I'll put up with the kind of control that keeps kids alive.

Like I've said before, there are those that are in love with the nanny state, and those who wish the government would just get the hell out of our lives.

It should be here to build roads and defend our borders.

Looks like finally it will be building roads. Not much has been done to update our antique systems in decades.

Elaine, I'm with ya!

A stinking hot house tomato, with absolutely no flavor at all is $2.99 per pound here.  The only tomato I ever buy now is a Roma which I can get when "on sale" at $1.99 per pound, and they don't have much taste either. During winter months now, I rarely buy fresh veggies - usually frozen.

Bread, if lucky, I can get for around $1.69 a loaf.  Milk, $2.39 a gallon.

I can't wait until summer months with our local farmers bring their home grown produce to the farmers market.  That's when I shop for fresh veggies!

And, no, I haven't seen one dime increase in my paycheck which is now 48% less than what I was making last year - with the same employer.  Add to that, I no longer have any benefits - nada, none.

And, to Charlie.  I have no argument with you about the unbridled greed that went on under the Bush administration.  That greed put us where we are now.  I didn't vote for Obama but when he was elected, I had hopes that he might make a difference and help this country out.  The pendulum had swung too far and needed to swing back.  Unfortunately, Obama is swinging it too far back when he should have tried to shoot for somewhere in the middle.

Sandy

It was Bush that swung it so far off that it will take us a long time to get it anywhere near the center. Obama is doing okay with it so far.

My parents and grandparents experienced the depression and were always frugal, so I grew up not wasting and we don't waste things at my house. My son, on the other hand (or his wife) think it's a "sin" to eat left-overs. they have no idea that "beans and cornbread" make a MEAL! My daughter-in-law can spend more on one meal than I spend in a week on food.

But I live in the country and we're getting ready to plant our garden. Before too long we'll have REAL tomatoes and veggies that actually have some taste. We've got hog traps set in the bottom and oats planted for the deer (the game warden isn't being too nosey right now).

One of my 'suggestons" to congress was they cut out food stamps and go back to "commodities" like they did back in the 50s and 60s and put the farmers back to work and let people have FOOD again. It would cut out a lot of fraud in the food stamp program and actually FEED people with a lot less costs involved and put farmers back to work. Obama has already cut some agri-subsidies(sp) to some of the big agri industries for NOT growing stuff. 'Bout time we started growing our own food and quit importing it.

I can get wound up on this, but if we took some of our people out of in front of TV sets and put them in the fields growing and picking food (instead of our "guest workers") it would put people to work (maybe not doing what they WANT to do, but to work) and produce food for OUR country instead of all these countries we've never heard of and OUR people might be able to eat. But that would be doing something for OURSELVES.

Sorry Elaine, didn't mean to get off on a rant. Times are tuff right now and we're all hurting. But I just get tired of hearing everyone blame Obama for all our woes when the man has only been in office for less than two months and this problem has been coming on for years. Now everyone just wants to scream about what he's doing wrong, but no one has a damn thing to do different except "don't do anything!" My mama always said "Don't complain unless you've got a solution." When I write congress I do offer a solution (not that anyone listens, but I figure that if you throw enough $%^%^ on the wall, some of it just might stick!).

Hugs BD

I take no offense, I don't let things on the internet bug be any more. If you read my post it said nothing bad about Obama. I will reword it so people understands it better. I said "Obama giveth  and the state taketh away."  I said nothing bad about Obama.
Pretty much we can't win for losing.

Barbara I will meet ya in the corn fields Wink !
