I'd be interested to know what you guys think. Personally, as a knee jerk reaction, I think they're greedy and wrong but I'll be the first to admit I don't know anything about the music industry.

I agree with you. I listen to Pandora at work, and having custom channels that (kinda) play what I want them to hasn't cut into my normal (low) rates of music purchases.  I don't think that youtube has quality stuff of commercial artists that would put people off of buying.

The outer boundary of what we currently believe is feasible is far short of what we actually must do.

Agreed, its basically another attempt to stop free internet use of music.

Most major newspapers in our hub are struggling to get readers to buy a daily paper because most people can read it online for free.

You tube doesn't stop me buying music, if anything I buy more because of it.. the thing I like is being able to say to someone "Here, this is the song I was talking about" and send a link or to look up a song I like to find exactly the singer I want to THEN by it.

For my money, the music industry has just cut off sales to ME

YouTube has helped me to find new music, which I loved so much that I went and bought the CD.  Smiley

I love country music and back in here none of the radio stations play it (and these days I don't listen to radio anyway), so YouTube, internet in general and some country galas on TV help me find new favourites.

This is really no different than the movie business complaining about BETA and VHS tape.  Now they're complaining about recordable DVD and BlueRay.

Remember the complaints from the recording industry complaining about cassette tape back when that came out.

New technology always brings groans from those in charge of making money from existing distribution channels.  However the lesson they forget is that there is one constant in life; change.  Progress is inevitable and requires change.

Just people trying to figure out how they're going to split up the money they're going to scam off you. Nothing to see move along.
