Frontline: Sick Around The World

Here's a link to another very interesting program:

Sick Around The World, was first aired on Frontline on April 15, 2008.

It makes a comparison of health care in five other countries who are rich free market democracies, to that of the USA.

The countries examined were, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Switzerland. They all seem to have similar things in common: most people in those countries are satisfied with their health care, no-one is denied healthcare, procedures have fixed rates, insurance companies hospitals and doctors have fixed rates. Going bankrupt as a result of medical costs in each of these countries is unheard of.

I found this program to be extremely enlightening, objective and interesting. The program is about an hour long but well worth the time.

Here is a link to additional interviews of the doctors interviewed in the film.

Here is a link to a chart that compares healthcare costs of Japan, The United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland and the United States.

These charts draw upon data from a 2007 report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which collects economic statistics on its 30 member countries. Taiwan, one of the five countries featured in FRONTLINE's report, is not included because neither the OECD nor the U.N.-based World Health Organization (WHO) track statistics for the island nation.
