I'm Legal to Drive Now
Mar 18th, 2009 at 9:00am

My driver's license came up for renewal this year... No problem right?

The way my year has been going -- this proved to be a BIG problem. Seems we only have ONE place in Cass County to get it done. So I go over there and they're CLOSED! Not once but numerous times. (I started doing this in Feb. - license expired in March). Never were they OPEN when I went over there.

So I've got an appointment with my neuro yesterday - (my license is a week expired by now), so I think - NO PROBLEM, I'll run by the DPS office and get them renewed in Longview. BIG MISTAKE....

I wait in LINE for one and a half hours only to have a witch with a green wig tell me I cannot SEE (well, I've been in this damn line - closed up for an hour and a half - I'm hitting about a five on the Kip scale, my eye is almost closed - of COURSE I can't see - I explain this to her slowly). It goes downhill from here. I DO NOT wear glasses!!!! She ends up giving me a FORM to have my optomologist fill out SAYING I do not need glasses to drive BEFORE they will issue me a new license!!!!!

I'm not a happy camper by now......

I have other business to take care of so I go on about my business and on the way home I stop at ANOTHER DPS office in Gilmer (well..... might as well give it another try - my head is MUCH better now).

Whole different ball game.... This nice DPS officer gives me the eye test - I tell him I can't see worth a darn because my eye is watering and he asks me which line I CAN see and tells me that's close enough. In 15 minutes I walk out with my renewed license and I'm legal till 2015.

I've never had so much trouble getting my license renewed. I think it's a slander to Senior Citizens ... Maybe turning 65 has its problems after all.... Smiley

But after a night's sleep --I'm MUCH better today... Kiss

Hugs BD

(who has this vision of Barb crushing the guys jewels in one hand while telling him which line she can see.  But her eyes are so bad she won't see this anyway.  So me?  I'm not worried...)

Gosh, you were so brave to be standing in line waiting with a kip anything !! It must have been awful trying to concentrate and read when your eye was watering and the head was pounding !

What a relief though and good thinking to go to another office so that now you have your license.

Congrats mum  Smiley

Barbara,

Good on you for sticking to your guns and not giving up... Glad you're good 'til 2015..

For the rest of you not familiar with driving in Texas...  They've got some strange rules down there...  like beer holders are mandatory on motorcycles...  It seams it's illegal to make a hand signal you intend to turn with a Pear or Lone Star long neck in your hand...   Smiley

Take care,

V/R, Batch

Attention all TEXANS!!!

It would be in the best interests of your health and well being, to stay OFF the roads until 2015 ...

Seems there is a crazy old biddie, on the loose, driving erratically, in her truck ...

Be leery!!!!
BEWARE!!!

Pete, this is obviously a well considered and thought out regulation.  After all, without the beer holder you'd have to choose between the brake hand or the clutch hand when deciding which to hold the beer in.  Or, you'd have to hold it in your teeth which could force you to take your eyes off the road  Roll Eyes

dont know how you stayed in the line - but I did a similar thing - not sure how it works in the states but here we have to take a 2 part driving test, a theory part and then the practical test. I did my theory test today and half way through the beastie kicks in, im sitting there in front of the computer in the test centre trying to concentrate and watch the darn videos and click the mouse when I saw the road hazards onscreen, I did pass though, god knows how!
