They become family....
Mar 20th, 2009 at 6:04pm

Our little kitty, who moved in as a stray about 13 years ago, isn't doing too well. After 13 years of her "reminding" us that it is dinnertime, she quit eating this past weekend. A trip to the vet and blood work has identified kidney failure. So she's been on daily "fluid therapy" all week - guess it acts like dialisys. Anyways since she's barely eaten all week I can't imagine how many more days she has. She's still so sweet though, just laying outside under her favorite bush. She loves to go out in the afternoon for the sun.

We're sending vibes and prayers for your feline friend.

We went through something similar last week when our 17 year old kitty stopped pooping.  Many dollars and a week later, she's back to her self.  I hope you have a similar result.

You have my sympathy!  It is exactly what I am going though right now.  13 year old cat that I raised fom a bottle is down to 3 lbs and staggering she is so weak.  I have been pureeing (sp?) cat food to put in a pet nurser to get food down her.  She has hyperthyroidism.  She is to weak to chew.  I am hoping the forced feeding kick starts her until the meds lower the thyoid levels.

Wishing you all the best.

Hope she remains as comfortable and happy as she possibly can.

Smiley And by a "Bunch" we mean about 2 tablespoons but after a week of her not eating we're thrilled. Thanks for all the good thoughts, PM's and messages. She just ate a couple treats too. So maybe she's going to pull through. Her blood test results showed 50% improvement from Tuesday.

Horray!

It is a big deal when they start eating a bit. I thik their tummies must shrink when they get sick and the appetite is so slow to come back. I was late to work last week because Maddie ate a handful of hand fed kibbles. It was the first time she had eaten in days when she was so sick. She is back to herself now, just itchy where the wounds are healing. That is great news about your kitty. I hope it continues!

Yeah KITTY!

When ours was sick last week she started eating canned food (fancy feast), even though she's only eaten dry food for the last 10 years.  I figure at 17 we can indulge her a little with canned.  Maybe your feline friend would enjoy that, too?

I'm so happy she's turned a corner.  You did good, Christy.

It's neither a waste, nor "just" a cat.  She's your friend and has been sick.  We want to pull for her, too!

Actually we've been feeding her Fancy Feast for a long time at night, and dry food bowl always full. But she's turning her nose up at cat food altogether. Hell if she'll eat tuna that's fine with me!

And I second that motion!  I have four cats and I'd be heartbroken if anything happened to them.  I  hope that she continues to get better is back to her happy kitty self before too long.
