Hey Jason, he'll be just fine.  My eldest daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out when she was 4.  Other than waking up crying because I wasn't standing by her (she woke from anesthesia quicker than we expected), she was a trooper.  Your son will be too!

*hugs*

Prayers from here.

You know, when I was a kid EVERYONE had their tonsils out? I remember being jealous cause they got to eat ice cream and jello. I never got mine out.

WHy did/do they take them out? ANd why don't we do it as much these days?

now they give em toast and crisps! They want them to eat rough stuff to make it heal quicker - sadistic gizzards huh?!

Good luck for you AND your son honeybun - it's harder on you than on him! I'll never forget when I saw Barney have a general anaesthetic.. he was sat up and just flopped - scared the living shit out of me. I screamed and burst into tears.. they didn't warn me what would happen and I thought he'd died or something. I was still crying when he came around, it was over THAT quick! Awful memory though so please be warned!!

Christy,

I believe the reason that tonsils are left in more often is that they have discovered that they really do help in fighting infection.  They take them out when one is getting Strep very often... 6 times or more in a season.

My daughter had hers out when she was 7.  She was not getting strep that often but hers were so big that they touched one another.  Her food was getting stuck in between them and she was not gaining weight.  It also caused her to have sleep apnea.

She had to stay the night in the hospital because  she had some trouble with the anesthesia.  She vomited for about twelve hours after waking up.  She also had a few episodes of apnea when she would fall back to sleep and needed to remain on a monitor.  She was fine the next day and recovered well!

Hugs to your little guy, Jason.  Once it's done you'll be happy he had them removed!  It'll make a world of difference!

Dyl had his out at 11.

Icecream was on the outs due to the mucus if can leave...but popcicles are great...specially if you make your own fruit smoothies and freeze them.  Keep the food values higher.

Jello and puddings, and lots and lots of Bob the Builder on DVD... Grin

Hugs and quick healing vibes going out to your son.  My daughter had constant strep. I was fed up and so was she so I told her Dr to take em out.  She ended up having her tonsils, adnoids and deviated septum surgery all at the same time back in 2003.  She healed up much faster than I thought she would.  I'm sure your son will be just fine.

Hugs,
Beth

Matthew - glad to hear your tonsils came out with no troubles.  Now hold out for all the popsicles your little tummy can hold.

Sending you big hugs honey.
