2000 Ford Mustang (not actual pic, same trim)
100K, 5sp, 3.8l V6 $6000

Cons: price, power everything, alloy wheels

Pros: Rear wheel drive, good gas mileage, feels solid

Hmmm, what to do?

I'm taking it for granted that it is a New York car, right? How much rust? Look under the mat in the trunk. $6,000 sounds high to me but I'm on the left coast and you're on the other one. Prices may be different.
Check out prices at Kelly Blue Book.

No rust, but neither does my '93 Saturn, which has not missed a winter.

I forgot a pro, I can fix this myself, even a transmission or engine change. Non of the nightmares like dropping an engine out the bottom to change a timing belt on a front wheel drive. Lots of room under the hood as it is built for a V8.

I wouldn't.

But that's just me.

I already have a car.

I dunno.....$6000 is 1k over excellent retail. Private party sale, same condition is $3600. Trade in is 2k which means you can buy um at the sale for a couple hundred more.

If I really wanted the car, I'd tell the seller to get serious because they are just dreaming now.

The 3.8 has a bad habit of blowing head gaskets.  At that many miles the price is way too high. Tell the seller to get real.

I agree... $6k is exceedingly high.

I am looking at a 2001 Mustang Convertible V6 with 80k miles on it in great shape for $4600, priced from NADA, KBB & Edmunds... a private party sale.

If the stars line up I might surprise my daughter with it for her 15th birthday party Saturday.

Yep way to high a price but so is every other car I am looking at.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT - $5850 127K

2003 Ford Taurus SE $4200 116K

2000 Chrysler Concord $2900 143K

1998 Dodge Intrepid $3200 130K

2002 Hyundai accent $3700 80K

97 Honda  $5500 75K ( rebuilt wreck)

I have never seen cars go for so much. I guess I picked the wrong time to need a car. Almost everything under a 100K is $8K+.

I wonder if I can rent a car for the summer? Yep for  $ 4,144.27. I'm screwed LOL.

If you wait a bit, you might be able to pick up a new one for that price. Why are the prices on used so high?
We had a GM dealership near here offer a "buy one, get the 2nd one free" (I am sure there was a fine print section) one day event about three months ago. Shocked

I sell auto parts for a living, and we are crazy busy for this time of year. The garages are slower than norm, but more walk in customers. Sorry about that, this is not my thread, just once I start talking I can't........

Bottom line, you will find your ride! Cool

just a thought, I picked up a 00 sportage , 40k miles, at auction for 2k.  just needed tires.  Don't know bout your area but plenty of auctions from police auction to dealer's auction with great deals.

every car in that list seemed high to me.

When you can buy new basic transportation with a warranty for less than 12K it's hard to see paying those prices for something with 100k plus miles.

As is everything else in NY state. New cars are not selling so there are a lot less used cars on the market. I wish I could wait longer to find one but stupid me bought a GM last time. Twice bitten, never again.

My girlfriend is selling her 2003 Impala (gold w/gold trim package) that has about 114,000(?) miles for $6500 o.b.o.  It's in excellent condition. Smiley

Of course, you'd gotta come to WI to get it.

I go for the Korean model  - Hyundai excel hehe.  My hamster mobile (as it was affectionately called) I bought in 97, with about 80k and paid $3200.  I had little choice as a recent divorcee with 2 kids and a full time student.

That car finally gave up the ghost, after 250k on it, and I had already given it to friends of mine.  They were impressed enouh with it's endurance they bought 2 Accents.

Just my 2 cents worth sine you can't find a slant 6 these days Wink

Cat

eta:  that car never failed me once, and according to Clark one of it's hamsters was already dead Tongue

My buddy with a Ford dealership said they are inundated with Taurus trade-ins.

He told me you can pretty much name your price on them.  I am not sure if that is local or national.
