As an episodic sufferer of over a quarter century, I remember well what life was like prior to Imitrex.  Once the "miracle drug" became available, there was at least some peace knowing that there actually was something that you could do to get rid of The Beast.  Sure, it was always a struggle keeping supplies up, and always a struggle trying to decide "Is this one bad enough to use one of my precious Statdoses?"  Then through this site, I learned of the vials, which really did make the supply issue a bit less relevant - now the precious liquid could be stretched out...

For some reason, I nevered tried the pure oxygen therapy suggested here.  It seemed complicated.  I already had something "in my back pocket" that I knew would help out in a bad spot - I don't know.  I just never tried it.

That is, until this cycle came to visit on 3/18.

I finally broke down and went to the doc last week, and got the prescription.  It wasn't something that I had "to sell" to him.  It was easy.  I called up the O2 supplier, and the next day the tanks were delivered along with the high-rate regulator and non-rebreather mask.  The O2 supplier was familiar with the therapy.  It was easy.

And the therapy has worked like a charm!

So if you are out there, thinking that it's too complicated, too tough to get through all the hoops with doc, insurance, O2 supplier, etc - do yourself a favor and think outside the box.  It's not that tough, and I wish that I hadn't been so stubborn for so long.

Thanks for the advice here from you all, and PFDAN to all!

Matt

I also remember the pre- imetrex days, and the pre-oxygen days as well. How many headaches could have been avoided only if i knew?? Well thats one i dont have to worry about anymore. ( thank goodness).

CAUTION:  Do NOT smoke when using or around oxygen.  Oxygen can permeate your clothing or bedding.  Wait, before lighting cigarette or flame.

Keep fire extinguisher available, and charged.

THANK GOD FOR OXYGEN!!!!!!!
Im so glad you finally tried it, and are having success with it.  It   makes life so much better for us clusterheads, that it breaks my heart to think of other sufferers who dont know about it, or dont think it will help them. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for posting that. O2 does Rock...

I've been an O2 junkie since WAAAY back. The first time I met my neuro I was in the hospital to get DHE IV (my GP snuck him in on me cause I refused to see another neuro - bad experiences with them). I got hit while we were talking - he jumped up, grabbed the O2 and slapped it on me (at 8 liters back in those days, but it helped) while he got me some cafergot. It was great and I've been a believer ever since.

But this NEW high regulator way is awesome.... I don't even need meds with it.... My O2 tank and Mom's picture are the two pruttyest things in my house....

Hugs BD
