don't ever forget to say "I love you"
Apr 23rd, 2009 at 4:49pm

I just came home from a funeral. A lovely 95 year old lady who I've known since my courtin' days (back in the 50-60's). Her son and my husband were roommates in college.

She's always been one of those kind of people you liked to be around, so since I've been back up this way, I've made a point to go visit her and take her to lunch or just call her up and shoot the breeze. I've been thinking about her the last few weeks and thinking I needed to call her or go by and see her, but.....

Well, she died Monday. But the funny thing - she was at church Sunday - can you beat that? And Saturday night she was at her neighbor's birthday party. Two weeks ago she "danced" at her grandson's wedding. Her granddaughter said after GAGA died, she left the hospital and went to her house and went to bed in Gaga's bed and thought she'd have a good cry, but looked in the corner of the bedroom and saw Gaga's "exercise bike" (that she rode 5 miles a day) and instead of crying started laughing.

But I sat there in that church and just wished I'd taken the time to call her and tell her one more time how much she meant to me. Apparently the whole town thought the same cause there was standing room only in the church (and it's a big church). But there really weren't any tears - we were all laughing at the life she'd lived and the lives she'd touched.

I saw some people at the funeral that I haven't told that I loved them lately, but I made a point to do so today.

Guess I just needed to get that out... thanks for listening. Now go tell someone you love them...

Hugs BD

YUP!

Don't send me flowers when I'm gone. Share them with me every day.
Never miss an opportunity to say I love you.
And, when I'm gone, celebrate the life I had, not the one you've lost, cause I won't be lost. You'll find me all around you.

oh, and, LIFE IS GOOD!

What is love? 'tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
What's to come is still unsure:
In delay there lies no plenty;
Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty,
Youth's a stuff will not endure.

Barb don't be sad she had those 95 years... and imagine the life and things she saw and dreams she made come true in that time...

Good post Barb.  Thanks.

A very good friend of our family was 91.  She had no family of her own, having buried two husbands, and no children.  We had kind of adopted her, and she us for the last fifteen years or so, and she was at almost all of our family get togethers.

Last summer I drove her home from my nieces wedding and reception where she danced with her "nephews" and had a great time.  She couldn't quit talking about what a wonderful time she had had in the 30 minutes it took to get her home.  I watched to be sure she got into the house OK, and she flashed her lights at me and waved before I drove away.  As she was walking to her bedroom to get ready for bed she had a stroke and fell, but could not reach her phone.  It was the next day before Dad couldn't reach her by phone and went over and found her.  She lived for about two months after that, but never really recovered any before dying.  I was so glad that the last thing I did was to give her a hug goodnight, and tell her how much we loved her before leaving her at her door.

You are so right.  It cannot ever be said to much.

I'll say it now, Barb, I love you!  That goes for the rest of this crazy family too!
